Hi. I have posted on here before about a suspected chalazion on 2 year old DS’s eye. He got it in November last year and it grew in size. First it started off as a lump under the skin and after a few weeks it developed an ulcerated/scabby top. We’ve tried warm compresses (tried them for weeks) and they made no difference. GP also prescribed antibiotics but again they didn’t work. After a few appointments we were finally referred to ophthalmology at the hospital. The referral was made nearly 3 months ago and we still haven’t had an appointment through yet. I’ve phoned them and they’ve said that due to Covid there are long delays and he’s not classed as urgent so not sure when the appointment will be. His eye is constantly watering and he’s rubbing it a lot. We were told it’s probably a chalazion but from looking at photos it doesn’t really look like one to me anymore! I know this sounds extreme but I keep panicking it could be cancer on the eyelid. I’ve attached a photo - any ideas on what this could be? Feel like we’re stuck with it and getting no help. He’s had this for nearly 7 months now. Thank you.

Could it be squamous cell papillomas ? no clue, I am just googling .

There are many types of benign and "harmless" tumours and this guessing game between gp and the internet needs to stop (or escalate it to a more specific eye questions forum such as r/eyetriage post a picture there )

Go back to the GP and ask for a new referral with words such as "eyelid tumours" which only means an abnormal growth around the eye and nothing sinister.

Anything that is crusty and scabbed should be seen quicker than that.

IT might be crusty because he is rubbing it but it must be annoying as hell, so can't blame him.

Could you sent a picture to the ophthalmology department? Hit the twitter-sphere ? Could you get a more educated opinion from an optometrist?

This must be soooooo frustrating !
