Hello,

My daughter has had a fever and is really not well and not eating and hardly drinking.
The nurse said she may have an ear infection (but she's not sure as it doesn't look that bad yet) and a really bad cold.

She prescribed antibiotics and also said to
Keep giving calpol.

My daughter absolutely hates taking medicine, I've tried to hide it in food and milk (she's refusing all milk and food but will drink some water.

I had to force the calpol down her and the penicillin but it's so traumatic and she spits most of it up.

What can I do? I'm so worried she's going to get worse because it's so hard to get her to have any medicine.

I don't live with her dad so I have to force the medicine myself and it's so hard. I'll have to give her antibiotics 3 times a day and possibly calpol that much if she still has a fever.....I'm finding this so hard as she's very strong willed.
Even the nurse that forced paracetamol in her mouth could hardly do it and there were three of us. She said my daughter is pretty feisty and strong willed!

Thanks in advance for any advice x

I used to mix it with Ella’s fruit purée pouches - either strawberry or the purple one. It would take some subtle trickery, such as flashing the Ella’s pounce so he’d see it and be expecting just purée, then distract with a toy or phone and go in for the kill quite speedily from a sideways direction, most of the time he’d open his mouth and take it out of habit and quite enjoyed the taste ;) You might have to dilute it with lots of purée and do a few spoons to disguise. There were several instances where I literally had to force it and it was horrid, but a relief when they start to get better. Crossing my fingers for you 🤞🏼

Use a syringe
Wrap in a towel, so arms are clamped by sides, and sit on your lap so you can further wrap one arm round whilst using the other to operate the syringe. Chocolate button afterwards (but in view whilst taking medicine).

Thank you!
I did the towel wrap...it's a bit distressing but it has to be done. Poor thing is scared I'm going to do it at any moment now but I have to do it to get her better.
I've tried putting it in food but she is hardly eating anything at the moment.
It's so stressful!
I'm also feeling guilty about the amount of tv we are watching but she's so poorly trying to play just annoys her.
The mum guilt never stops! Xx
