Best age to start orthodontics?

Dd is 11 this month and starting secondary in September. Whilst her teeth aren't terrible, the dentist believes she'd benefit from braces though doesn't qualify for nhs treatment. She has four baby teeth left to lose then we'll go privately but is 11 too young?

Let your dentist guide you. It’s best when all the baby teeth are gone. The age this happens varies by child. Even in same family. My one DC got theirs at 12, the other at 15 because one is ahead of average in teeth, the other behind.

Now I have a 17 y o getting wisdom teeth before her two older siblings at 19 and 21!

I guess the best thing to do would be to phone an orthodontist and ask. The one we use doesn't see them until they're 12 but I don't know if they're all the same.

It'll depend on her teeth! Our eldest was in the same situation. She had all her adult teeth at 11.5yrs Started orthodontic treatment at 12 abs finished just after her 13th birthday. Our next qualified for NHS treatment - he started at just 15 and finished 3yrs later (he had a 4 month delay of removing them due to covid).

My youngest had an underbite and cross bite and started treatment at 8. Treatment was intermittent over the years and not completed till 17.

Depends on teeth, my son had his removable upper and lower ‘block’ type retainer put on at 11 and fixed retainer put on a few weeks ago, he is 12 now. Still had a couple of baby teeth to come out, but when they did they adjusted the brace.

Yes will definitely wait for all baby teeth to go, though they've said they can work round them, we're not in a rush. I've booked an initial consultation with an ortho so we'll take it from there. Dd wants clear brackets and wires so preparing myself for the cost.

Dentist here. It's usually on a case by case basis. We usually try and coincide it with natural growth spurts. I'd say be guided by your dentist/orthodontist and at a time when your son will be able to cope properly
