Toddler cut front bum

NC as feel weird about posting this.

Toddler, 2 and 4 year old running around naked before getting in the bath. Me and DH in DD1's room they have run into our room which is next door. Next thing here a loud bang and DD2 screaming. I run in and pick DD2 up and ask DD1 what has happened who says she didn't know.

DD2 is inconsolable sat on my knee and shaking never seen her so upset. Pick her up to see what has happened and notice there is blood on my trousers. Look to see where the blood is coming from and realise it's coming from her vagina. DH trying to wipe away blood to see if there is a surface cut, only way she could have cut herself is by falling onto is bottle of dry shampoo that Was on the floor at the time. But no sharp edges on this at all.

Bleeding has stopped and can not see any obvious reason for bleeding, potentially small cut slightly inside vulva. It looks like a little bruise similar to what you'd get if your skin gets pinched. Bleeding has completely stopped now and she has calmed down but am now worried in case the cut is not the source?

What would you do? Do you think she needs to see a doctor immediately?

How old is she? Can she explain what happened or can her sister?

namechanhe45687 · 02/05/2021 17:50

She is 2 her sister said she didn't see, she's just said she's hurt her bottom. It literally happened in seconds of them running into the room.

I can imagine, mine are always injuring themselves.

I wonder if it’s worth calling 111 to ask their opinion?

I guess if she’s fine and bleeding stoped that’s a good sign.

namechanhe45687 · 02/05/2021 17:53

@OverTheRainbow88 thanks, yes probably the best idea. Pretty certain they will say take her to A&E as they normally do. Thanks for your help.

Skin is thin there and a hard bump, especially against something hard, could cause a small tear and it would bleed quite a bit. It's probably absolutely fine.

Lollypop4 · 02/05/2021 17:54

If you cant see a surface cut, sounds like it is internal.
If its stopped bleeding thats good but if cut inside, she might feel it when passing urine.
I would get her checked out I think. High risk of infection if internal and may need antibiotics in a few days?

namechanhe45687 · 02/05/2021 17:56

@Lollypop4 good point about infection hadn't thought about that. Would you go to A&E or out of hours fo you think?

@RagzReturnsRebooted thank you, makes me feel better, feeling awful for her.

Call 111 but use proper terminology so they understand as it sounds as if you are talking about her vulva or perineum but you say front bum and vagina instead, so it’s difficult to understand. Whoever you speak to won’t be embarrassed by you using the right words and it could make the difference in terms of seeing her/treating her. Hope she’s ok.

FeatheredHope · 02/05/2021 18:02

If you have an out of hours you can visit, I’d go there.

namechanhe45687 · 02/05/2021 19:29

Thanks all, rang 111 and said would need to send ambulance so currently in A&E so will see what they say. Hoping just a little cut I can't see.

Ambulance? Bit of an overreaction from 111 there. I hope she's ok and it soon heals.

wildeverose · 02/05/2021 19:44

It's not an over reaction from 111 - a 2 year old with possible internal bleeding, is an emergency. Op doesn't know the source of blood.
Hope she is ok op, please let us know how you get on x

Toottootdrivers · 02/05/2021 19:55

It could just be a small cut. It might just be an area that bleeds easily. Or she could have broken her hymen? My friend broke hers as a child falling off a chair. Hope it's nothing serious and you get sorted.

FlowersofSpring · 02/05/2021 20:15

Maybe they were confused by the location like me so they could have suspected a PV bleed. Bugs the hell out of me how correctly naming female genitals makes adults all odd and resort to things like front bottom.

Aprilshowersandhail · 02/05/2021 20:19

Glad you have taken her op.. I fell off a wall when I was about 7 and was bleeding. Dm wouldn't take me for fear of awkward questions apparently.. One of many home accidents never taken in for..
An embarrassing moment when during a smear the Dr mentioned I had a scar.... Never knew!!

I hope she's ok op! What a worry our little ones are, I hate it when they can't properly tell us what happened or what's wrong.

namechanhe45687 · 02/05/2021 22:12

Thanks for support everyone, back from A&E and doctor suspects she may have done the splits when falling and it is her hymen. Suggested warm baths for next few days.

111 said as I couldn't see a definite source of the blood they had to assume it was internal bleeding.

Thanks for your help everyone. Glad it is nothing worse.

Glad she seems ok. Good that she was seen quickly.

Was going to say something similar happened when I was a small child, playing with a friend in the garden on climbing frame etc. Friend fell awkwardly, noticed blood later and it was thought to be hymen.

TheVolturi · 02/05/2021 22:27

Good that all seems ok!
