12mo has had on and off temperature for 3 weeks

If anyone had any advice I’d be very grateful. My 12 month old came down with a temperature/cold symptoms 3 weeks ago and after a few days seemed better. However a few days later he went downhill again and he was prescribed antibiotics for an ear infection which seemed to help. Five days after finishing the anitibioticd he had another temperature just for 24 hours with no other symptoms. He was then fine for a full week and then last night came down with a temperature again, he’s at his grandmas today and she said he’s slept 2 hours which is so unlike him and feels a bit warm still.

I’m so exhausted of being worried, I feel like I’ve been running on adrenaline for the past 3 weeks just constantly worried about what’s wrong with him and why he keeps getting ill. He’s never had a temperature prior to all this starting. In total I’ve rang the doctors 4 times in the last 3 weeks but it’s hard because he keeps seeming like he’s better after a few days so I feel like I’m wasting their time but at the same time I’m so anxious. My boyfriend is convinced the last two times have been from teething but I’m struggling to be convinced that teething could make him sleep so much longer than usual.

Between these times where he’s been poorly, he’s been fully his usual chatty busy self.

Has anyone got any ideas or advice? I’m so worried and exhausted.

It sounds like the bug that we’ve had for the past couple of weeks, we just can’t shake it. We’ve all had negative covid tests.
Our 1 year old has been up and down with temperatures too, she shakes it off and then comes down with a variety of cold, ear and cough symptoms. DH and I have been having the same, minus the temperature...
I know of a few other with it too.

I don’t think it’s officially acknowledged in the medical profession but ours have always had temperatures when teething.

Is he generally well in himself, apart from the temps?

I would be concerned too. Have the doctors physically seen him? It may be nothing but I think with young children it’s better to be on the more cautious side.

I would actually phone again and ask to be seen by a doctor, perhaps a different one to who you’ve spoken to before. Our GP surgery is really good and will always see a child. Explain how anxious you are

Yes we’ve had negative covid tests too! I think he’s got a cold now, I initially put a few sneezed and a runny nose yesterday down to a bit of hay fever but he’s come back from his grandma’s today with a bunged up nose.

He’s eating fine and drinking fine, nappies are normal and he seems to be okay in himself playing and messing, he’s just very tired, warm and snotty.

He joined nursery a week before all this started so I suppose it could potentially be all the new germs he’s exposed to after being basically in lockdown his whole life before

They saw him a few weeks ago and he had an ear infection in both ears, we have another appointment tomorrow. He joined nursery a week before this happened so part of me thinks it could be all the new germs he’s exposed to now.

Yes we have a phone appointment tomorrow where I hope they’re going to ask us to come in, I’m going to really say I want him to be seen. I think he has a cold now, but just with how he’s been in the past few weeks I want to be 100% sure it’s not another ear infection.

I’d get them to check her ears again too. This cold virus thing has come off the back of a really nasty ear infection in my daughter and she needed two lots of antibiotics. She is. Terrible sleeper but sporadically, since having whatever this bug is, she has slept a lot longer at night.

Nursery could also be the answer. In this past year they’ve hardly been exposed to any germs and now it’s bombarding them.

Won’t hurt to get seen again though. Hope she’s better soon and you some peace of mind x
