Does this sound like asthma?

My son really struggles with his chest but I am unable to get my gp to investigate. His symptoms are as follows:

Hideous croup every time he has ever had any virus or bug. 111 have sent an ambulance for him twice and he's been treated with steroids and a nebulizer which stabilised him quite quickly. The croup attacks started at about a year and still happen at age 5. His tummy visibly sucks in under his ribs and at the base of his neck when this happens.

He has spates of becoming breathless and wheezy after no real exertion. At these times, since a toddler, he might need to stop walking after each few steps before he can continue. He also has to pause for breath in the middle of sentences. This can last a day or so and then not happen again for months.

He struggles with any exertion as he starts to cough uncontrollably. He has just started a football club and it is really noticeable.

He has terrible hay-fever which is on top of other symptoms.

His father and his paternal grandmother suffer with quite severe asthma.

My gp is always totally dismissive and makes me feel a bit like I'm being neurotic. One of my older children used to get croup and was a "happy wheezer" but this is totally different.

Should I push for investigation or just muddle on for now? I just feel that if there is anything that can be done to help him then I should pursue it.

He is not overweight or generally unfit by the way, not sure if thats relevant.

Yes it does although I'm not a Doctor, it just sounds very much like my DSis at that age. One of her worse triggers was chlorine.

Asthma UK have a helpline. It might be worth talking to them about your concerns and see if they have any tips on talking to your GP.
