Hi everyone.

Just looking for some comfort/reassurance here really. My DD is 15 months now and I’m starting to feel like she is constantly poorly. She had her first high temp at 5 months old where she was in hosp for a couple of days but they ended up thinking it was just viral.

Since that she has maybe had 3/4 “episodes” of randomly getting a high temp for 3 days and acting very grizzly and clingy. We’ve been to the hospital a lot and although I don’t wsnt to waste the NHS time I can’t help but worry. She had a temp of 40 3 weeks ago and then it went on it’s own but 3 weeks later and she has a high temp again.

She never gets any other symptoms, no rash everything clear etc. She perks up with calpol and nurofen but once it’s worn off she’s all limp and grotty again.

We live out in the countryside with a German shepherd who is probably mixing with all sorts in the garden so sometimes I wonder if she’s picking up germs from the dog. I guess this wouldn’t be too much of a bad thing if she is building her immune system.

Did anyone else get this with their child? Maybe 5ish temps in 15 months isn’t a lot. I get mixed reviews from parents. Doctors and hospital always just say it’s viral xx

Have a google of periodic fever syndromes, they are very rare and it took us years to get a diagnosis, so you would need to see a rheumatologist to discuss the possibility. A regular temp is not necessarily viral.

My eldest is 4.5 now and very temperature prone. They sometimes last 5 days, we’ve not got in investigated as assume it’s cause he’s around loads of kids most days. With covid though it’s very hard always getting him tested.

@OverTheRainbow88 does your little one ever have other symptoms with the temp? My DD just has the temp and acts unwell but no signs of infection in the ears throat etc. Or runny bottom or anything.

Maybe because it’s my first but I just can’t help but worry. It doesn’t make things easier as well when people say “my little one is never ill. She shouldn’t have a temperature so often”

No not really or anything obvious. He’s quite miserable and cheeks look red which is why I check.

Hi yes my son was very prone to temperatures I also felt as though I was always dosing him up with calpol he seemed to get a high temp so easily. Every tooth he cut was at least 3 days of a high temp, every cold, every illness a high temp. I think some children are more susceptible to this as my nephew has hardly had temperatures at all. Just giving some reassurance that this isn’t uncommon. I just treated him with calpol to keep him comfortable and kind of resigned myself to the fact he was prone to this.
