Hi all,my 3 month old is severely constipated hasn't been since Thursday afternoon. I will be calling the doctor first thing, I have tried all of the remedies I can think of as well as giving him his prescribed lactulose. He is on anti reflux milk which we think causes most of his problems so I'm thinking of changing to comfort milk, what I'm not sure of is to change brands aswell. He is sick a lot but this has been put down to reflux, his sickness improved massively but now we're having this issue so really not sure what to do for the best x

The name^

I know that anti reflux meds can hinder the use of lactulose.

Which anti reflux meds is he on?

hemhem · 05/04/2021 21:34

Please have him checked for possible cow milk protein allergy. It can cause reflux and constipation. If it is CMPA you need a special milk to be prescribed or you need to cut all dairy from your own diet if you are breastfeeding. It takes 4-6 weeks for the milk proteisn to fully clear from baby's system but if it is CMPA you'll see an improvement in reflux and constipation symptoms within a week. Be that pushy parent and get it checked.

He's not on any reflux medicine he was on gaviscon but that caused awful constipation and clay like poo. So I stopped breastfeeding and put him on anti reflux milk which seemed to work well. This week has been bad. I'm going to call the doctor first thing. I have a condition that affects the bowl so I'm very worried about his tummy and want to make sure if anything is wrong it is caught early

It could be the reflux milk but like a pp said reflux and constipation are both symptoms of CMPA. CMPA can be a bit trickier to deal with when ff. With non ige CMPA which has digestive symptoms the only way to test for it is to try out medical dairy free formula and observe the symptoms. There are a few different milk and some of them the milk protein is more broken rather than dairy free.

What did the dr say OP?

My daughter didn't poo for a week once at that age and was actually fine. Hope baby is not in discomfort though.
