Dehydration and diarrhoea

Ds is 2 and has obvious sensory issues and delays undiagnosed they won’t look into him till he’s 3.

For the past week he’s had diarrhoea, blamed it on pica (card) he’s been checked and docs said he’s fine (Wednesday). It’s down to once or twice a day and absolutely foul smelling.

But for love nor money can we get him to eat or drink more than a few mouthfuls, he hates wet foods, won’t spoon feed, won’t drink milk during the day, won’t touch diaoralyte and licks an ice lolly once. He’s not interested in stuff he’d regularly eat either. He’s more tired than usual but for him that’s not exactly low energy ( jumping about between laying down). He won’t let me squirt water in his mouth with a syringe ( he’ll bite/kick/scream until he vomits)

He drank 7oz of milk between 7pm and 11pm last night and 3/4’s of a cup today.

What do we do? I called Adoc last night but she wasn’t helpful, all stuff we were trying. He’s cmpa so can’t get formula for the sake of vitamins too.

Phone 111 or your out of hours number - dehydration can be serious & a child may need medical attention if had less than half their normal amount of liquid.

In the meantime kee up what you are doing offering little - about 15mls every 5 minutes and seeing what stays down.

Is there any other food he likes? Squash?

I’d take him to Crosshouse A&E although you do need to phone ADOC back and ask them for an A&E appointment there.
Good luck.

Perhaps this is daft, we were sent forcibly done a fluid challenge which obviously picked him up as its coming out the back not vomiting. And sent home..

But what do we do now? He never touched his cup or his bed time milk, possibly because it was late, but if he doesn’t drink again do we just keep syringing and causing significant stress to the entire household? How long do you keep that up? Take him back up?

He’s a stubborn guy, so I know if he doesn’t want to I’ve got no chance besides forcing it.. obviously tried the making teddy a drink, he’ll give his teddy some... he’s like yeah no I’m not falling for that one Grin
