Hi everyone

I picked my daughter up from Nursery today and they told me her lips went blue again. They took her temp it was fine. I took her to the doctors the first time it happened and they said she's fine. I've got another appointment tomorrow to check her over. I have never witnessed this happening myself so I'm very confused. Has anyone else had this with their 2 year old and there been no explanation?

Hi OP

My DD used to go quite blue when she got cold. She's always been quite skinny, and I think lack of body fat meant she felt the cold a lot – after swimming, playing out on cold days, on the beach, etc. Is your DD on the skinny side? Maybe she got chilly at nursery? I bet they are playing outdoors a lot, keeping windows open etc.

My DD was and is fine, grew out of the blue thing by about age 5.

Thank you. She is petite but not skinny she's quite stocky petite. I do hope it's nothing to worry about. I've been scaring myself silly with lots of googling!

Same as PP above - my DD gets blue lips and cheeks when she’s cold (still refuses to wear a coat, but that’s another story). Sometimes it seems to be triggered when there’s a sudden change in temperature - like getting out of a hot bath. Looks quite alarming. I still get blue extremities when I get very cold.

My 12 month old goes almost purple in the cold. It freaked me out for a while but my doctor said so long as it’s associated with the cold, it’s nothing to worry about. Her hands, cheeks & lips are turn a horrible shade of blue & they feel freezing despite it not always being that cold in my opinion. She can be in a warm bath in a bathroom that’s heated, but stood up walking round the bath & it happens 😬

DD is 12 month old very chubby baby but she has very fair skin.

Always worth getting it checked I’m sure but I suspect nursery is probably just a bit cold at the mo as they are keeping windows open for covid! I send both kids in multiple layers & tell nursery to adjust as they need!

This used to happen to my dd when she ate raspberries, we put it down to an allergy and stopped giving them to her. Her lips and cheeks would go very blue it was very strange. She grew out of it though and can eat them now.

It could be a temperature thing, I would ask if she suffer with blue lips if you go swimming but there’s not really be the opportunity to do this recently 🙈

Of course it's best to get a medical opinion.

But DD used to get bluish lips when she had a bad cold when she was small (she is now 4.5, this was between birth and maybe 3 years old).

The first few times we took her to the GP (and once A&E). Her oxygen levels have always been fine, it just appeared to be a weird side effect of being a bit unwell.
