Anyone here who has children with amblyopia and a lazey eye. Prescription is -2.50 right and -1.25 left. Trying to get the best help for my lil one who is 8 years old. Are glasses enough or should I look into vision therapy! Please help

Amblyopia means lazy eye
Looks like your dd is short sighted. Do you mean she has a squint? (Lazy eye isn't a squint, it's poorer sight in one eye compared to the other)

Has she to do patching treatment or is it just glasses she has been given so far?

Do you mean +2.50/+1.25?
a minus prescription of that level wouldn't cause amblyopia, unless there was significant astigmatism as well.
Even plus of that prescription is fairly small and spectacles should be fine. (potentially patching - but may not be needed).

Do you know what she can see on the test chart with either eye?

Her vision is lesser in the right eye. She’s just been given glasses for the last 4 years, the drs never told us to do any latching. Her lazy eye looked fine but as the strength of her prescription increases her eye is turning further outwards. I really am very frustrated.

She is short sighted with some astigmatism. -0.25 cyl and 90 Axis. Why is her eye wandering further out?

My dd got an operation on her squinting eye once her sight was ok in both eyes (she was still long sighted in both but the signals from both were now about equal). Are you treated through a hospital orthoptist?

My son had a squint (strabismus), not that it was visible, but this caused his eye to become lazy (amblyopia). He had patching for several years and the improvement was huge. He also has hypermetropia and has a prescription of 7.5+ and 9.5+. He manages perfectly well now but without the patching it would definitely be a different story.

Is she under a opthalmologist? My son has a squint and bad eye sight. He is due to have an op for the wondering eye any time now (should of been last year) has a prism on his glasses to keep his eyes straight but is on the highest level now so needs the op asap!

We were discharged from hospital after our second visit and was referred to a local optometrist. Did you’re sons vision in both eyes improve after using the glasses?

I am baffled as to why we were not offered patching. I have asked my dr to refer me for a second opinion to an eye hospital. That will take some time

So patching only improves the amount of letters your daughter is able to see on the test chart, it won't improve her squint control (they are 2 different things).

Vision therapy can sometimes improves squint control as it can build up (fusional reserves), basically making her eye muscles stronger.

If you feel her squint is worsening, a referral to see if she's suitable for surgery could be an good option, but they don't do vision therapy on the NHS.

Yeah his vision is much better with glasses. He has never had a patch. The patch would of never worked for him. It's not part of treatment for this condition.
