Daughter is 11 - incontinence/wetting ?

My daughter is 11 and has wet the bed 3 times in the past week or so. This morning she's changed her clothes 3 x a she says little bits of urine and coming out and her pants are wet.
She doesn't have any pain/temperature or anything.
She had an MRI Friday as her legs have been locking (over a few years but ignored until now). So I thought maybe she was worried about that but she did fine and doesn't seem anxious or anything at the moment.

She did wet the bed until she was 6/7 fairly frequently but she's been fine since then.

I have had probs since I was about 18. I was found to not be emptying properly at 18 and told to do exercises. Funnily enough after I had 3 kids, this improved. However, I still can't go anywhere for over 30-40 mins if there is no toilet and get anxious if I have to.

Any ideas?

I'd be worried that the incontinence and the legs locking were related.
Have you discussed with your GP?

starrynight21 · 21/03/2021 10:52

I'd see the doctor. She could have a urinary tract infection which would need antibiotics.

Talk to your GP...it must be upsetting for your DD & she would maybe have more awareness of potential ongoing issues especially if she is knows of your past problems & your need to be near loo. Def back to GP to find a solution..

Definitely see the GP. Is there any reason you can't at the moment? It could be a UTI with no fever, could be related to the legs locking, could be something else entirely.

Thank you. It is extremely difficult to get a GP appointment at the moment but we have to make one to get our MRI results too so will see if they can get us in. We also have a physio appointment coming up soon. The leg locking has been happening for about 4 years and it's excruciating for her when it happens. It's been lasting about 8 hours when it happens over the past year. Physio thinks it may be Discoid Meniscus or Osteochondritis Dissecans but really hope we get some answers finally.

She has been telling me about her hair and thinks her hairline is receding around the ears. She has afro hair so It's not very obviously but I could see a bald spot in one place. I'll be mentioning this too.

I would keep a diary so you can see a pattern/frequency just in case it helps. Definitely first stop the GP. For the time being would a small pad help for school days so she isn't embarrassed? My teen son went through a phase of his ankles and knees locking. It ended up being painful. Had a GP referral to a hospital child physio who went through exercises to help certain muscles to ease the problem

StopGo · 21/03/2021 11:45

@Scantilydoesit you mention afro hair. Has she ever been tested for sickle cell disease?

Scantilydoesit · 21/03/2021 12:28

Stopgo, Yes, she's mixed race ( black African and white British). She has never been tested I don't think. Funny you mention that because a paramedic asked the same question a while ago when he came out (asthma attack).

But she would have been tested at birth right? Is that the heel prick one?

That must be worrying for you. I would get a urine sample from her and drop it off at the GP tomorrow. It could be a urine infection. I hope you can resolve the other issues as well.

Sudden incontinence will be taken seriously as it can be neurological and you need to make a GP appointment. Dd3 had it and I was surprised how quickly we were seen and referred, and it wasn’t to the same extent as your daughter’s. I would make a separate appointment to the MRI one as this is a different issue.

Thank you ram and moecule. Will try my best tomorrow morning.
