Invisalign or braces for a 12 year old - what would you have done differently if you had known?

My 12 year old son is missing 3 adult teeth. They're not there, they will never be there and he will need an implant at some point because one of them is a small top incisor.

I've been to see two orthodontists for different opinions but they're so incredibly different I don't know what to do.
The first says he needs braces now and all can be sorted within 18 months, and that he doesn't qualify for NHS.
The second says he does qualify for NHS and that it's not urgent and and that Invisalign could also be an option. Much less ugly and much fewer appointments needed.
A key factor is DS is starting boarding in September. Expense aside (thank god for grandparents) I understand that invisalign is really convenient as the new "prints" get posted straight to the school so orthodontist visits are only every 6 months. But I understand that invisalign is very hard work, need to take them off to eat, hurts to take them off etc so frankly seems almost easier to have braces. I have a very skinny boy and can't have him being reluctant to eat if having to take the prints off is too difficult.

I'd love to hear about your experiences, anyone?

Thanks all,

Gosh not sure if trust a 12 year old to wear their Invisalign 22 hours a day!! Plus they are so easily lost as you have to take them out to eat. I would go for fixed braces at that age.
