Hello

If you buying for a newborn, what products would you want to have on hand to make up a ‘starter kit’? Either medicines or any recommendations for care items like this nasal aspirator business people speak of!

Metanium nappy cream. It's magical stuff!

GalaxyGirl24 · 08/03/2021 20:34

Aquaphor
Sterile water for eye cleansing (can get pods of it)
Burns gel
Metanium (yellow one)
Nose Frieda

EvilOnion · 08/03/2021 20:35

In ear thermometer
Cooling gel ice pack
Infant Paracetamol

Small nail scissors
Small nail file things

Snot sucker
Baby Olbas oil

Coconut oil (amazing for skin and hair - particularly cradle cap and nappy rash)
Chamomile teabags (excellent for gently cleaning nappy rash)
Sudocream - great all round when you really need!

Infant Ibuprofen

Teething powders
Teething gel
Teething ring

Soft hairbrush

Would never have guessed about the teabags!

Go on a baby first aid course too - knowledge is much more important than Stuff. Stuff is useless without knowledge. Eg would you know what to do if your baby, god forbid, did get scalded somehow?

Brill suggestions by PP, I think the only thing I've used that hasn't already been said is Snufflebabe (baby Vicks'). We also really like the plug in vapour things and Asda's menthol baby bath (can you tell we had a LOT of colds in year 1!)

Metanium is magical but I'm also intrigued by chamomile teabags, I can imagine they feel nice on a sore bottom and less likely to stain your fingernails 😂

I can’t live without:

Thermometer
Saline spray
Calpol plug in
Snufflebabe vapour rub
Sudocrem
Camomile and honey teabags
Nose frida

Megan2018 · 08/03/2021 22:15

And we always have many bottles of baby Nurofen and Calpol.
None of the teething stuff was any use-DD wasn’t bothered by teeth all that much but the few bad ones we had only Nurofen worked.

Also we had 2 instances of high fever where we had to give both Calpol and Nurofen under Drs advice. So definitely good to have both in.

Has no one said lansinoh yet? Add that too.

Inkpaperstars · 08/03/2021 22:24

Good point Purple. There was meant to be one as part of the antenatal class I booked but they decided they couldn’t really do it virtually so it didn’t happen. I think maybe you can still book a one on one class though so I will get on to that.

Meantium is 10 times better than sudacrem
Calpol plug in and extra refills
Anbesol liquid...its the only thing that ever helped teething
Calpol and baby nurofen
Thermometer (not the Tommy tippee one its useless)

Inkpaperstars · 08/03/2021 22:38

What kind of thermometer is best for very little ones? One that goes in the ear or something else?

Saline nasal spray - magical stuff for bunged up noses when they can’t feed or sleep for it.
