Baby straining crying squirming all night in sleep

My baby is 6 eeks old and for the past 1 month has been really unsettled when we put him down on his back. He falls asleep after a feed, we burp him, hold him upright for 30 min, but as soon as we put him in his crib or a few minutes later he screws his face up, strains, makes lots of grunting/straining noises, pulls his arms and legs up, squirms, arches his back and head back, he does little cries and and then they turn into a full blown cry and we have to pick him up or sometimes it just goes on for hours. It's like he is uncomfortable and seems distressed but stop crying as soon as we pick him up. The strainingnand squirming is nearly constant at night with 1 to 2 minute breaks where he appears to still be asleep (unless has developed to full blown cry)
Its keeping me awake at night as he is so noisy, he is clearly uncomfortable with the straining/squirming and I constantly think he will wake up any second withcries. He does this whenever he is on his back. He is exclusively breast fed and otherwise gaining weight. Keeping him in upright position doesn’t help much.i have tried every possible thing like tummy massage, bicycling his legs, putting him down on his tummy,(he doesn’t burp while he is asleep).he keeps farting but looks like has difficulty passing gas while he is asleep. It becomes difficult to put him to sleep even when he is tired and sleepy. Not sure if this is colic, reflux, or something else.any suggestions would be appreciated.
Our GP started him on gavisxon nearly 2 weeks ago, and I have been dairy/soya/egg free for 3 weeks, not seem any improvement from either.
Please help! Desperate for some sleep

I was going to suggest cmpa. But have you replaced dairy soya and eggs with something else if it started around the same time as your exclusion diet? My Ds has issues with Coconut for example so when I cut out dairy and replaces with coconut it got worse!
