I feel like an idiot for not knowing the answer to be honest but if someone could give me their opinion I’d appreciate it!

Are the spots blistered op?

dementedpixie · 07/03/2021 20:44

Where are they on the body?

Chicken pox forms into fluid filled blisters that burst and scab over

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/03/2021 20:47

No, I don’t think so.

CP tends to start on the trunk and the spots have little fluid filled blisters to start with.

Don’t know what it is though, sorry. I hope your lo’s not too poorly.

ConnieDobbs · 07/03/2021 20:48

It could be the early stages, or it could be another kind of rash or even insect bites. The only way to be sure is wait till morning and if it is chicken pox there will be lots more and some will have started to blister.

Have you done the glass test?

usedandabusedx1000 · 07/03/2021 21:03

It’s actually been there for a few days! They came up on his back first and then his legs, but it’s been difficult but he suffers with bad skin/eczema anyway so him scratching himself to death or having marks etc isn’t unusual but these seem more like spots, they’re very raised.

@ConnieDobbs I thought the glass test was for measles? Or are you saying it might be measles? They are raised tiny spots rather than your usual rash I’d say? Oh I’m getting worried now that it’s something serious and I haven’t acted on it! I just assumed they were chicken pox and that they would get worse/spread to his belly/face over a few days and now that isn’t how it’s really gone I’m unsure!

Really can’t say from your pic.
Does he seem okay, feverish, anything different?

dementedpixie · 07/03/2021 21:10

Doesn't sound like chicken pox if they aren't blistering. They blister and scab over within about 5 days

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/03/2021 21:12

I don't think so. Maybe an allergic reaction to something?
Best consult your GP.

BrokenLink · 07/03/2021 21:20

It doesn't look like chicken pox to me. It looks like an allergic reaction or possibly a viral rash. Is he well in himself? You could get it looked at by a pharmacist tomorrow, they will know whether he needs to be seen by a GP.

usedandabusedx1000 · 07/03/2021 21:44

@BrokenLink good idea to suggest pharmacy, I will pop in with him tomorrow. The problem with calli by the gp is they just ask for photos to sent in, I’m starting to think he now needs to be physically looked at. I haven’t worried too much about it because he always has bad skin and is itchy (same as me) so just assumed pox because it’s nothing like any skin problem he’s ever had previously! Seems well in himself, he’s red cheeked/looks pale but I just assumed that was because of all the time spent indoors and he’s a little more whingy/screamy/stroppy than usual but generally nothing too out of the ordinary. One more thing to add to the list of worries! Yippee!

If it hasn't blistered by now then it isn't chicken pox.

The glass test is for meningitis, if the rash doesn't fade under pressure then it could be meningitis. It's rare but very dangerous so it's the first thing I check with any rash. Although there would almost certainly be other symptoms eg high fever.

Eczema can sometimes look very spotty so it could be that. Have you tried using a moisturiser like E45?
