Dd 4 has two holes in her back teeth

Please don’t have ago at me, I feel awful.

Dd4 has been to the dentist regularly as she had decay on one of her back teeth. They filled it last time and it’s lasted well. While brushing this morning I saw she has a hole on the opposite side!

I feel awful. I’m going to ring the dentist when it opens at 8.30.

She eats a lot of raisins, fruit and I’m not going to lie occasionally some chocolate (not sweets, I hate them!)

She drinks no sugar squash and water.

My oldest has perfect teeth but my middle child has no enamel on his back teeth.

I feel so bad 😔

Raisins are dreadful for teeth I’m afraid. You might as well be giving her toffees

Raisings and dry fruit are as bad as sweets for teeth because they're both sugary and very sticky, so get trapped in small areas and cause decay.

She won’t be having raisins again that’s for sure 😔

Don't feel bad. If your middle child has enamel problems then your youngest may have weak enamel too - you can only do your best. I've two children with enamel issues. Cheese is your friend! It neutralises acid so give it after the raisins and at the end of meals. As you've already said you go to the dentist regularly so be guided by them.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Teeth decay can be genetic. My grandson has terrible tooth decay despite a very low sugar diet / good tooth brushing. Luckily it affected his baby teeth and the dentist is alerted to the fact he has genetically weak teeth so they can manage that as he gets older.

Fillings are not necessarily your fault, some people are more prone.

Some people who have never smoked get lung cancer - and get less sympathy than other cancer sufferers as people subconsciously associate it with smoking and choices!

You have three children with three different types of teeth by the sound of it.

Keep brushing and visiting the dentist, listen to all their advice.

Yep, raisins are basically the devil when it comes to teeth. Knock those on the head. My dentist says sometimes it's not about what they're eating it's how often. Every time you eat something your teeth are being attacked. If you don't leave long enough between the first attack to then eating more you're basically allowing a constant attack on the enamel. So try to limit snacks and swap snacks to low sugar options when she does have them. Things like chocolate, sweets are best eaten immediately following a meal so the attack all happens at once if that makes sense. Also heard that having some cheese after a meal is good for teeth too.

It's hard this parenting malarkey. Things you think are super healthy might be causing damage in other areas.

Everyone has different teeth and some seem more susceptible to decay etc. As an adult I have to work really hard with my gums. While my partner just brushes and everything is fine.

Be guided by your dentist and advice they give, there’s a big difference between a couple of holes to children having several teeth removed etc.

Managed to get a dentist appointment at 10.10!

They put a child’s filling in it and scrapped the decay out. They said that if we just keep an eye on it and get it re filled every so often it should last her and it doesn’t need to be taken out.
