DS is 2 next month. Since November he’s had a lump under his eye which has gradually grown. The lump started underneath his skin in his eye bag, now looks like this! It’s on the surface of his skin now but it still looks and feels like there is still a mass under his skin. He’s had doctors appointments and they gave antibiotics, which I think was to stop me pestering them more than anything, but they didn’t make a difference. They’ve said they won’t refer him to hospital because there’s nothing they can do, we just have to wait until it disappears. It is definitely still growing and hasn’t bothered him until now. Now he keeps blinking and rubbing it because it feels like there’s something in his eye, bless him :( has anyone else’s children had this and how long did it take to disappear?

Thanks for info, there is hope for us yet! 😊

Hi, sorry to jump on this thread but I wondered if anyone had experience with their little one having multiple chalazion’s at once? My three year old had one about 7 weeks ago which still hasn’t gone in her left eye and now she has three in her right eye that all came in the space of a week. The eye doctor gave us steroid ointment to put on once a day and told us to carry on with hot compresses (she has already had 2 doses of antibiotics) She says they aren’t sore but they do look it and I’m constantly worried about it.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

My daughter currently has two. Both lower eyelids. She did develop one in the upper eyelid but that went within one week. The other two have been present for a year. We have used topical erythromycin eye drops and had a three month low dose course of erythromycin as provided by opthalmologist. Symptoms did improve. I think what has helped the most is the optase heated eye mask. We use the eye mask everyday and feel that it has helped loads. I found that co-amoxiclav helped when acutely infected. The eye mask has proved the most helpful for us. If you want to message about it I'm more that happy to chat with you as this has been ongoing for us for a year and would have been happy with any advice back wh n it all started 😊

Thank you so much @Jodiejp 😊 All very helpful, it’s such a stress isn’t it? I get sad when kids constantly ask her what’s wrong with her eyes when we are out. I do actually own that optase heated eye mask and struggled to use it on her before but may persevere with that one. Apart from that I have been using chamomile and green tea tea bags, baby shampoo to clean the lashes and facecloths in hot salty water but it feels like we may have this issue for a while, thanks again

@RachelMary85 It really is a stress. I have had the same with children at nursery saying things to my daughter. She drew a picture of herself the other day and coloured red lumps under her eyes while pointing out "Those are my stye's mummy". She now responds to children by saying they are just my "Styes" and will be gone soon.
I have actually managed to get them to discharge by using the heat mask about 4 times a day during a flare up.
I feel quite sad for her that we have to make time everyday to be doing this.
Whenever we had an hopsital appt with the opthamologist after lots of checking the eyes they seem to flare up again which is odd.
I have been reassured that in most childhood cases that it is something that is not carried through into adulthood but as prone to it always once a day to use the heat mask to try and break down and oil that could potentially clog the glands. Who even knew this was a thing until it happens to your little one.
(Sorry about different account name, could not log in on onto previous one!)
Wishing you well, we are a year down the line and there is improvement!

Hi all, just revisiting this old post to see if anyone has any experience of getting rid of of old (and new) scars from chalazions? My 3 year old daughter has had them for about a year now and they go up and down, the heated eye masks do really help to unclog the oil when they flare up but what worries me is her scars that she has had for almost a year (see pic) Am wondering if I can get something to help them fade as would hate for her to get self conscious when she starts school soon 💔 any help would be much appreciated x

Hi, I don't have any suggestions other than to keep up with the compresses(optase heat eye mask) I was doing so everyday until my daughter's scars disappeared. I still now do two weekly now just as prevention. I have shared some pictures of her healing process and now as you can see there is no sign at all. It took a year for the scars to fade away. I thought there would always be visible marks. Please take it from the world's worst worrier that this will improve!! All the best with your daughter starting school 🩷

Wow @Jodiejp Thank you so much, this really puts me at ease and comforting to know I’m not the only person who has spent a lot of time worrying about this! I probably got a bit too relaxed not using the optase mask every day and am going to make sure I do now. Really appreciate you sharing this and so glad your daughter’s eye looks so much better now xx
