Ds has had this a couple of times before. Vomiting 2 or 3 times, headache and looks really pale. Assumed stomach bug although none of the rest of the family caught it. This time we have been shielding so can't be stomach bug. I'm now wondering if it could be migraines?

My ds has been a migraine sufferer since he was 3, he vomits with them.

My mum and I both suffer with migraines. Mine started at about age 8/9 so nothing to do with puberty etc. My son now seems to be heading the same way (he's 6), acts strangely, then complains of headache then vomits. Unfortunately there's naff all I can do for him except try and train him up to tell me as soon as he feels the headache coming on so I can get calpol into him and a cold flannel/kids forehead cooling strip thing on him. Persuading him to try and lie quietly is taking much longer to sink in

As your child is older there may be more treatment options, worth a chat to the gp? Triptans have been a lifesaver for me but I don't know the minimum age they can be prescribed. I'm also on Topiramate as a prophylactic which has also improved things but that took quite a few hoops to jump through to get prescribed so I assume that's adult only

Good luck, they are grim but there are effective treatments out there

Migraines cause a lot of nausea for me and mine started in childhood.

Is she feeling tension behind and above one of her eyes?
Finds everything bright, knocks things over, forgets words, feels travel sick, bright light makes her feel more sick, strong smells and rich foods increase nausea?

Quiet dark room, paracetamol, anti-emetic, starchy carbs, gentle pressure on the opposite side of the discomfort can help.

Sorry he not she!

I used to get really nauseous when I was little and had migraines. Couldn't move without feeling sea sick many times, too.

Enough4me has some really nice check points. Also, try locating his headache. Is it all over, or more in the direction of the neck, or perhaps to one side? Does he see aura's when his headache plays up? Tingling fingers? Does he have slurred speech?

Best thing I was ever advised was to document migraine episodes in some sort of diary. It will help your GP to check if there are patterns and triggers, and certain pain medication is better in certain cases.

Hope your son feels better soon and that he's not suffering from migraine.

Definitely document it.
Have an eye test too and ask them to do a visual field test.
