Toddler burned finger in food

Last night my 15 month old grabbed a bit of her dinner before it was fully cooled and burned herself on it. It was a fishcake, she stuck her finger in it and couldn't get it out, probably 3 seconds. I immediately ran it under lukewarm water for as long as she would let me, then gave her a bowl of lukewarm water to 'play' with. I managed to get a dose of ibuprofen down her too. She slowly ate some dinner whilst sat on my lap, then when DH got home she happily played with him, and then went to bed as normal and is fine in herself today, but her finger has a little blister on the end.

Do I need to do anything or just keep it clean and keep a close eye on it?

Feeling some serious mum guilt!

How big? It it a blister or a patch of shiny/shrunk skin?

TheChip · 16/02/2021 16:01

Just keep an eye on it and keep it clean. She will be fine.

The mum guilt will pass eventually. That is the hardest part!

@TheChip it's so bad isn't it! I honestly feel like I've dropped her in a pot of lava or something - she's not even bothered now!

Awwww we soul! Try to keep it dry (good luck) and clean. You could also try some tweething gel on the fridge if it looks like it’s causing her discomfort.

I am always burning myself and it’s always cold water, more cold water and burn gel (covered in tissue or a bandage) that works for me.

TheChip · 16/02/2021 16:17

Haha yep the guilt is horrible. After seeing the pic though, honestly it's fine.

I still have some (fire) burn marks on my hands from when I was little. Also scars where I fell through a glass seed frame. I was a little bugger and always seemed to be crawling into things I shouldn’t (we had an open fire until my parents decided that it was safer not to).

No reason to feel guilty - some children are just fast and curious.

Thanks for the reassurance everyone!
This thread may as well have been titled 'let me prove I'm a first time mum without telling you I'm a first time mum' 🤦🏻‍♀️

Unfortunately, this is how we all learn what "hot" really means. Poor thing, but she'll be fine.

Hey I was #5 so I guess I was in the ‘well kids are pretty indestructible’ camp!

My girl did it the other day with her pasta bake, I put it on the side to cool but dad gave it to her and she stuck her hand right in it and burnt her finger , she's not bothered either really, I have 3 children as well so not just first time mums it happens to !
