Repeat stomach troubles

Please can you give me your thoughts on this, I am in a dilemma as to what I should do.

Three weeks ago DS (6) had a bout of explosive diarrhea that passed in a few days. No temperature, no other symptoms, apart from his stomach making terrible rumbling sounds. His friends at school had it (not in the UK, schools are open). All had the same symptoms, and along with many of the mothers whose children had it, I concluded that this was a rather "kind" stomach bug (in that there was no vomiting, temperature and so on..).

This weekend he is having exactly the same thing, explosive diarrhea, no temperature, terrible rumbling sounds. Yesterday it was very bad, but today already seems better. It seems odd to me to have the same thing twice in such short succession, and all his other stomach bugs have been accompanied by a temperature. I would think it was a food intolerance if it was not the fact that his friends had it too, so it must be something catching.

Would you ring the Dr about this or wait to see if there is another round? I don't want to bother them during these difficult times, but the diarrhea is really explosive and he has no control when it happens.

Stomachs can sometimes take a while to recover after a bad bug.

What’s his diet like?

After this second episode started he is on a restricted diet, but in general I would say he eats quite a balanced diet. During the week he has school lunches, and they are really good (soups from local vegetables, risotto, pasta, fish, very rarely fried or greasy). They also have breakfast at school, elevenses and afternoon tea.
At home he eats more or less the same. We are strict about sweets/chocolate intake, and he only has soft drinks when he is at someone's birthday party (and there aren't any at the moment).
