Continuous bleed

My dd is only 11 and started her periods age 10, 1/2.
Her first period was normal and then she didn't have another one for 3 months (which I know can be normal) since then things have been a nightmare, with that period lasting 48 days.
From that one until the current one she bleed more days than not.
Her current period started 8th December, so now on day 65.
Gp is involved and due to dd age, they have contacted gynea and gynea informed gp to put dd on 5mg of progesterone.
After 9 days it didn't work, so gp then upped it to 10mg and emailed gynea back to inform them and ask for further advise.
Dd has now been taking 10mg a day for 12 days now and it's not worked.
I contacted gp again last Monday and they have still not heard back from gynea as to what to do, so gp receptionist followed it up and was told it would be put on the top of gynea's list but 2 days later, gp has still not had a response.
I am not sure what my next move should be, I bought dd vitamin and iron tablets at Christmas time to try and prevent anaemia. Dd is still very young (not even in high school yet) she is suffering with cramps and just generally down about it all, she can't continue like this.
Starting to consider taking her to A&E to see if they can do something.
Any advise greatly welcome x

Sorry I have absolutely no advise but it’s just awful to hear your poor DD is going through this. Awful for someone so young. Just keep on and on at the GO and gynae until someone sorts this for her, she can’t be having this to deal
With.

It's awful for her, I just seem to be getting no where.
Starting to think A&E might be the way forward but feel guilty at the thought of taking her there as its not classed as an emergency and they are so busy with the covid pandemic but then on the other hand, my dd is suffering x

I'm not sure A&E would be much use, unless she's losing so much blood she needs admitting or urgent surgery. It would be a crappy experience for her and unlikely to get you anywhere.
I'm so sorry this is happening to your poor DD, that's really rotten. My DD started at the same age but thankfully is very regular and only issues are painful cramps and stains on the bedding. I can't imagine how awful a 2 month bleed would be as an adult, never mind for a young girl.
Do you have a number for the gynae department? If not call GP daily until its sorted, there isn't much else you can do.

Kanaloa · 10/02/2021 23:34

It might feel pointless but I would recommend as a pp said ringing gynae office and/or gp daily until it’s sorted. I found them terrible at getting back to me when I was unwell but ringing them constantly I ended up being able to get certain tests before surgery a bit earlier due to cancellations etc.

Hope your poor daughter gets seen to soon, this lumbar be horrific for her.

My DD was quite similar but not this length, very heavy tho which is quite intense for a young girl. They prescribed Mefenamic acid (an antinflammatory) to try instead of the pill. First month was a little lighter but this month it worked a treat, period hardly there. The alternative would be tranaxemic acid which I took myself for years and can stop heavy bleeds quite quickly. 65 days of a (heavy?) period, she needs her symptoms treating asap and the cause investigating.
Quite often the first sign of a 'mild' bleeding disorder in women is starting periods, although there could be any reason.
I wouldn't hesitate to contact the GP again tomorrow & ask what the plan is for a child on day 65 of a heavy period. Is there a possibility of blood tests being completed if not already done? Also, contact the gynae secretary etc. I wouldn't blame you for sitting in A&E with her if she's struggling, seems unwell and is clearly going through something abnormal.

Thanks everyone.
I have been in contact with the gp everyday this week and will be phoning again today.
I will ask the gp for gynecology phone number so I can start chasing up with them myself.

You could also ask about referral to get involvement from a paediatric consultant/endocrine - 11 is super young & she may need bloods to check hormones etc -

When you speak to GP this morning ask if you can be referred to the hospital today - via children's A&E or a better pathway the GP will know as they can refer you directly or directly to Gyno -

Bati · 11/02/2021 09:21

I have spoken to the gp again this morning and they have heard back from gynea.
Gynea not happy with the 10mg she is on so has put it back to 5mg but they are also putting her to something else to go along with it.
We are to phone the gp back in a week to see if it's worked.
In the mean time dd is having blood test to see if she has some sort of blood clotting disorder and to check for aneamia x

There is nothing A&E will do. It's not an emergency it's a chronic condition best managed by your GP and Gyne team. Unless she is bleeding more than 2 mug fulls of blood in 2 hours then that's when she needs emergency care.
