Any idea what this rash could be? Does it look like eczema to you?

DS is 13 months and has had eczema in the past, still gets it behind his knees.
He got what I thought was a few patches on his back - same colour and very dry/rough to touch, fades under a glass. So I put the usual cream on it and it seemed to clear up a bit. This was a day or so ago.
Just gave him a bath and it’s spread across his back and now looks less eczema-y.
He hasn’t got a temperature, seems fine in himself apart from teething, eating and drinking fine, nappies fine, sleeping fine.
Been a bit teary this afternoon when he woke up but this isn’t unusual.

I’m going to call the doctor tomorrow and send them pics but wondered if it looked familiar to anyone else?

Thank you!

If the “usual cream” contains a steroid it could be a steroid induced rash.

I put oat cream on him last night as I try to avoid going straight for the steroid creams but have put the steroid cream on him tonight (after these pictures) to see if it takes it down over night as I know the doctor will ask me tomorrow

The oat cream we usually use works well. I haven’t changed anything in his diet aside from him eating a new cereal today and yesterday so I will check the ingredients to see if anything stands out

I think the bath possibly made it look redder as it was obviously warm in there, it didn’t look as red earlier but has definitely spread.

Oh bless him. I’m sure the GP will have some ideas.

It does look a little like chickenpox, but probably not too many opportunities to pick that up at the moment.

I hope he’s not too itchy tonight.

It looks a bit like chicken pox to me .

hallomother · 10/02/2021 18:28

It doesn’t seem to be bothering him at all - I wondered about chicken pox but we literally haven’t been anywhere!

Anyone else?

Possibly this? Two of mine had it, around nursery age. Looks alarming, but doesn't bother them. Apparently the more inflamed it looks, the quicker it tends to heal up (means that the immune system is fighting it).

Thanks @LaTomatina I’ve never heard of it!

I’m not sure it has those characteristics but I guess I’ll hopefully know tomorrow when I send pics to the GP they are pretty good at getting back to you same day, especially for children
