Not sure if this is the right place but I was hoping someone might have experience staying at the patient hotel at Great Ormond Street.

My DS is have day surgery there in a couple of weeks but we have to stay over due to distance/COVID-19 testing requirements. I've never been to the hospital before as all appointments have been video calls.

Any tips about what to take, where to eat and where I can take a small person to try to wear him out before bedtime would be greatly appreciated. Tried Google but not very helpful.

Theres a lovely play park "coram fields" round the back of GOSH.

I'm not sure how helpful my experience is cos we were bumped to a pretty fab hotel 5 mins walk away and it was pre pandemic. we walked (wheelchaired) down to Leicester square the evening before got dinner there and did the big kids shops.

A more pandemic friendly option might be to head down to Buckingham palace.
Theres a pretty little play park with swings and all sorts in St James Park and stones throw from the front of Buckingham Palace. It's a fair distance but did it regularly when we were going to GOSH as it's a really interesting. You go through 9 Dials, Leicester square, Trafalgar square and the Mall.

@Hazelnutlatteplease Thank you for replying. That's helpful thank you. My DS is 19 months old so is a bundle of energy so it's good to know there is somewhere to stretch his legs. I doubt many shops are open but I imagine there will be takeaway options from those restaurants you mentioned. I'll take a look now.

We have stayed there - more hospital like than hotel like to be honest, including the beds. Bring your own toiletries! But it is perfectly clean and nice, and convenient.

There's an Italian restaurant called Ciao Bella on Lambs Conduit Street just by Coram's Fields park that seems to be doing takeaway. I used to love their pasta but haven't been for a few years.
Not sure if Coram's is open at the minute, but you could walk to the Brunswick Centre where a little one can run around as there are no cars and there is a Waitrose in case you want some posh groceries :)

We were there in September, my dd needed a cardiac stress test but because they had to do a Covid test day before and we come a long way we were offered accomadation. We ended up getting one of the flatlets, very clean and staff really helpful.
Coram's fields is lovely, there is a Sainsbury's local not too far. We had breakfast in the hospital cafe as we only stayed one night.

I guess you may have already been by now as i am late to the post.
