My baby eye swollen and red

hi, My baby eye is a tad swollen and red. They're watering a lot and have yellow gunk coming out of them, i keep cleaning then but he now has a red patch on the outer corner of his eye.
Can i put cream on this, if so what type?
It keeps been there because it's constantly wet, any advice would be appreciated

The pharmacist will recommended something

Please do not put any random cream near your babies eyes

Ouch bless him. Yes definitely see a doctor. Hope it clears for him soon.

As PP says, use breast milk - it works magic for this

InvincibleInvisibility · 08/02/2021 07:20

See a doctor. Id say conjunctivitis. My youngest gets it often, starting at 6 weeks old.

Don't put anything else on it before seeing a doctor- eyes are very sensitive.

InvincibleInvisibility · 08/02/2021 07:21

As an aside, he is gorgeous!

Lifeinaonesie · 08/02/2021 07:22

Definitely breast milk, just squirt it straight in if you're like me, or if you're more refined add it to a cotton pad and then wipe the eye

DeathMetalMum · 08/02/2021 07:26

Breast milk/GP.

Looks like conjunctivitis but get it looked at. Pharmacist would be able to look but wouldn't be able to give anything if it is conjunctivitis (has to be over 2 years) so GP would be best.

Pluckyduck · 08/02/2021 14:50

Looks like bacterial conjunctivitis- if so expect it to spread to the other eye. Get doctor to check as the drops you need can only be on prescription for under 2 year olds.

RedPandaFluff · 08/02/2021 19:26

Really? Breastmilk for conjunctivitis? Wouldn't that potentially make it worse? I'd have thought bacteria would grow in the milk and aggravate the infection . . . ?

Breast milk is sterile.

@RedPandaFluff Yes you can squirt directly into eye, then it’s totally sterile, or you could squirt into a sterilised container and dab it onto the eye with clean finger or clean cotton wool ball.

However, remember we’re people on the internet and haven’t seen your baby in person so it’s always a good idea to get it checked out by health visitor or GP if you’re worried.

InvincibleInvisibility · 09/02/2021 07:56

Please see a dr. He's so little and conjunctivitis can do damage if left.

Don't know if it is that but get him checked.

chloe1999xx · 09/02/2021 09:34

Been to the doctor and he thinks it's only a blocked tear duct so just cleaning it with cooked boiled water and it's just a sore round his eye from it watering so much! Thanks everyone x
