I have included a photo of my 6 year olds bottom adult teeth that are growing through, can anyone tell me if this looks like enamel hypoplasia? I will be making a dental appointment Monday but just wanted to see if anyone had seen similar? I know I’m probably being dramatic but I feel so upset, his baby teeth looked so perfect and Google images isn’t helping.
Thankyou.

Second teeth are always yellower and worse looking than baby teeth. My daughter does have enamel hypoplasia on her four back teeth and they honestly looked like chewed chewing gum by the time the dentist pulled them out.
All my children's second teeth come out yellower and rougher than what you're used to seeing but as time goes by they straighten up and look better.

Thankyou for your reply, he only has two adult teeth at the moment so it’s hard to tell if it’s just the contrast between the teeth or there is a problem, I hope your right, would hate for him to have to endure years of dental treatment.

Yep, they look totally normal. My children keep their teeth for longer (14 year old still has one or two to come out) and youngest, age 8 still has all back baby teeth and incisors and dentist always says they're lovely and healthy but new ones come do out looking just like your child's.

He has plaque on his teeth and what looks like the beginning of fluridosis.

WellThisIsABitRubbish · 31/01/2021 03:02

@PinkyU Plaque on the 2 coming through? I gave them a good brush thinking the same but it’s not coming off, fluridosis came up when I was Googling, anything I can do about this whilst I’m waiting for dentist appointment?

It looks like possible molar incisor hypoplasia. There are huge variations in this and until the teeth come through there is no easy way to predict this. In the meantime good cleaning and careful with his diet.
The teeth need to come through so they can be seen fully. It may affect the other incisors and the first molars but there is no way of telling at the moment.
I know if feels awful when you see a tooth coming through that isn't perfect but at this stage it's too soon to tell and your dentist will monitor and manage it with referral a specialist if needed.

My DS’s teeth looked like that when they first came through. It was as if they were covered in yellow plaque. It took several months but it did brush off. Dentist said she’d seen it lots of times before and some teeth do just come through like that. They looked awful for ages though. All absolutely fine and don’t look a different colour to the milk teeth now.

Do go to the dentist and get it checked out though.

Thankyou for the reply’s this is occupying my mind far more than is normal 🙈 I will look up your suggestion @MillyMollyMardy, I know it’s hard to tell as he only has two adult teeth, I have bought some children’s enamel plus toothpaste, will step up the brushing and make an appointment at the dentist.

This is completely normal op, most adult teeth come through with a coating on them which disappears over a few months of brushing, do not worry
