Moloscum contagion

Blossombelle1991 · 29/01/2021 08:32

My daughter has this annoying virus molloscum contagion..... Can anyone tell me it does get better and what are the signs before it does? The ones she has now are very small as we are constantly treating them morning and night. I have a 10 week on son and I don't want to go through this again with him so I'm just paranoid about it spreading on to him I feel I'm constantly washing everything and is literally driving me insane I'm worried about summer when I can't cover up. Just find this molloscum and covid and constant washing is taking a toll on me mentally. Just want to hear this virus does clear!!

What are you treating them with?
My dd had them for quite a few months. They do go eventually.

Blossombelle1991 · 29/01/2021 08:43

@dementedpixie we tried that molludab but it didn't work, we extracted some cores on the big ones. Right now we are using oregano oil diluted with coconut oil on them. How do you know when they are ready to go just feel its never ending

DS1 had this for about 9 months and it went away on its own - we didn’t treat them at all and we weren’t particularly careful about spreading it, but none of the rest of us got it. I can’t remember how it went, I just realised one day that they weren’t there.

dementedpixie · 29/01/2021 08:48

We tried a few things but ultimately they went by themselves. Dd had quite a few and ds ended up with about 3 so the infection can be different in different people

superram · 29/01/2021 08:50

We just left it, made sure they didn’t share towels and all was good.

headlock · 29/01/2021 08:50

We did the same as @ASimpleLobsterHat.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 29/01/2021 09:02

Dc2 had them and they were horrible. Tried various things but nothing seemed to work. Dc1 got them and they disappeared in days, it took about 14 months for hers to go. Just all got red and fiery with no new ones appearing.
They are horrible but they do disappear eventually.

kursaalflyer · 29/01/2021 09:21

We had this for two years. Doctor suggested putting plasters on every one to contain the spores and they were gone within a couple of weeks.

Blossombelle1991 · 29/01/2021 10:58

I think I'm scaring myself I've seen some pictures where they get so bad and then I'm paranoid about my son getting it and having to go through this all again with him. Every little spot that appears on my DD I'm worrying its that and has spread... The more googling I do and seeing the bad pictures the more it's playing on my mind of being scared it will get to that stage

Did any of your children get a rash before it went? I read a rash appears when the body is fighting the virus

DH had them and gave them to me when I was pregnant and being immunosuppressive day they spread like wildfire.
I covered each one with apple cider vinegar (the real one with "the mother", not a vinegar in the salad dressing section) on a q tip and covered each with a small cut up plaster. Repeat every night. They dry and a black dot appears in the middle and they scab over. Make sure to keep covering with plasters to avoid spread.
I personally would give it a go at treating them, really dedicate yourself and hopefully in 10 days they'll be gone.

Blossombelle1991 · 29/01/2021 13:40

@lashesZ have tried the Plasters on my daughter but her skin has become really red from the adhesive some parts have caused bleeding I'm just finding it so stressful I keep her covered in clothes and if one looks as if it will burst I will cover her with a plaster I'm worried about summer as I csnt keep her covered up then

You need to find the biggest one, the “mother” one and extract it 🤢 then the body realises what it is and can start to make antibodies and it should clear itself up quite quickly.

tiggy20 · 29/01/2021 13:54

So sorry to hear this. My daughter had it in nursery but only a had a few lumps, but she passed it to my son who had it for months and months. He eventually had a blood test in hospital to check for underlying conditions & it miraculously cleared up the following week. Just completely disappeared by itself practically overnight.
I hope that it clears up soon in your family.

Hoppinggreen · 29/01/2021 14:04

We couldn’t shift DDs but then one on her arm became infected. It was treated with anti and cleaned up by the GP. After that they all just went very quickly.
I have heard some people find Molludab useful

Dentistlakes · 29/01/2021 14:04

DS1 had it and I tried various things (molluscum, plasters etc) none of which seemed to work. I chanced upon a post somewhere talking about Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream. It’s a bit like Vaseline and I was sceptical at first, but tried it anyway. I put it on all the spots and after a week or so it seemed to work. Whether it was going on its own accord anyway or it was actually the cream I don’t know, but others have had it work for them too so it might be worth a try.

I hope you manage to get rid of it OP, it’s such a tricky thing to get rid of.

CharlestonChew · 29/01/2021 14:09

I know you’re told to leave them alone but they were spreading in the direction of my DC’s face so I decided to try and treat them. I would treat a few every day by extracting the white core, put tea tree oil on and put a plaster over them. They were gone within two weeks.

iMatter · 29/01/2021 14:09

We tried everything when ds2 got it. Nothing worked. He had it on his back and underarms for literally years (age 3 - 6). He still has the little pockmarks now at 15.

Hopefully you can find something that works for you.

Smellybluecheese · 29/01/2021 14:29

Molludab worked pretty quickly on my daughter's. When the spots were on their way out they turned red and inflamed for a few days then disappeared.

She had one big one and a couple of small ones on her back until DH, thinking it was a spot, decided to try and squeeze the big one. They then spread a lot - so don't do that!

Blossombelle1991 · 29/01/2021 14:32

@LadyCatStark how long after you took the mother spot out did the others clear up? I got rid of it about a month ago but still little ones on her body?

Blossombelle1991 · 29/01/2021 14:34

Just out of curiousity how long did your children have them for? I really do not want to go through this with my son as well :(

OP posts:
Blossombelle1991 · 29/01/2021 14:38

@CharlestonChew we did this with some but found tiny little ones would appear nearby after? I would spray a antiseptic spray on it before and use sterilised tweezers to get the core out. I would spray it again once I got it out and put a plaster on it which we left on for about a week. Was I doing anything wrong here?

My 4 year old had these last year for about 6-8 months, we tried molludab but he found it painful when being applied, seemed to make them sting, so we left them alone. He had them on his arm, torso and randomly in one eyebrow! He shares a bath with his little brother every night so it was inevitable he would also get them, which he did about a month after 4 yo had cleared up. 2 year old had them on his torso mainly but nowhere near as many and they cleared up on their own with a cpl of months. My advice would be to let them be because IMO when you're treating them and touching them you're at risk of spreading them further. I know they're really unslightly and I was worried about it when they first appeared but they should go away in time.

lifesbetteraftertea · 29/01/2021 14:45

Just to add, when they're starting to go away they do become quite red and angry looking. I could tell which one was the mother spot and when it burst and turned very red the rest all disappeared very quickly after

Blossombelle1991 · 29/01/2021 18:26

@lifesbetteraftertea how long after the mother went did the others follow the mother went about a month ago
