Covid - or something else?

Hi there. Daughter has had neck pains for a couple of weeks, following an emergency milk tooth extraction. Last day or so, she’s had high temperature and loss of taste and smell - cue the suspicion of Covid. We booked a test for her to tule Covid in or out. Fast forward to today and she tested negative, so DW phoned GP for advice. Guess what the answer was - maybe you’ve got a false negative. Maybe go for repeat test in a few days time. Am I being unreasonable in wondering if I should ask for a second opinion? I know that a false negative is possible with PCR tests, but I would have expected a positive result with symptoms clear to see. Or, is there another explanation for her symptoms. Daughter does have PDA and suffers from high anxiety. She has a place in school due to her needs, but has not attended this week due to being unwell. She was also disappointed at testing negative, due to her anxiety. Many thanks all.

Yes it could still be covid (have seen icu patients test positive only on the fourth test). But it could be something else. Has she seen the dentist since the extraction? Surely if the pain started after that then it could be related (doctors aren’t dentists and don’t get any dental training). Bottom line i guess is that if she deteriorates she needs seeing/discussing again but a repeat test seems sensible too. (And of course if there’s still a suspicion of covid the usual isolation rules still apply.)
