4 month old blood in nappy

Hello,

Just looking for some advice.

My 4 month old daughter had blood in her nappy at the last change and on wiping there was quite a bit more.

I have a 3 year old girl but never experienced this with her.

Is it worth a doctors trip tomorrow or is it normal?

Thanks in advance

Hi there I would phone 111 and ask their advice x

A baby girl can sometimes have bleeding from the vagina like a period, something to do with the hormones in their system passed on from the mother at birth and it takes a while for those hormones to leave, it can be normal but I'd definitely recommend you speak to a medical professional just to be safe in case it's something else.

My daughter had a tiny bit of red spotting in the days after birth, which is hormonal. However I don't think this happens at 4 months.

I'd work on the basis she might have a urine infection... Def 111.

Please ring 111 and don't wait until the morning

OllietheOwl · 24/01/2021 20:19

Could you see if there was any obvious cause of the blood? A cut, a sore etc? Was she crying or anything to indicate she was in pain?
Was this after a poo? Was she constipated?

Aimee1987 · 24/01/2021 20:20

Agree with others call 111 and or see gp tomorrow.

olderthanyouthink · 24/01/2021 20:20

In a wet nappy or in poo?

mummytolittledragons · 24/01/2021 20:39

At 4 months that's certainly not normal. I would seek advice. Because of her age it would probably be a good idea to take her to children's a&e

EarringsandLipstick · 24/01/2021 21:22

Any chance you are b/f OP, and have bleeding nipples?

This is the main cause of blood in a nappy at this age & has given many mothers a fright!

kathryn0812 · 25/01/2021 08:38

No obvious cuts. It wasn't a poo nappy, just a wee and she hasn't been constipated. I had a rough night with her so will call the GP this morning.

Thanks for all your comments

Not breastfeeding either, she's exclusively bottle

This would count as an emergency

User38385463 · 25/01/2021 09:32

Did she have a rotavirus vaccine recently? DD had diarrhoea afterwards (also at 4 months) with occasional blood. We took her to the doctor who said it was most likely an anal fissure caused by the irritation from poo.
That means mild bleeding could also be caused by any type of upset stomach.

If there is a lot of blood or it looks darker/jelly-like then that's an emergency.

mummytolittledragons · 25/01/2021 18:22

Have you spoken to a doctor op?

Namechange8471 · 25/01/2021 18:28

How did she get on op?

ChablisandCrisps · 25/01/2021 18:40

I hope the doctor was able to see your daughter today OP

kathryn0812 · 25/01/2021 19:15

My doctors surgery is under a lot of pressure at the minute so despite trying all day, calling every half hour they couldn't see her today. I did however speak to a health visitor who said she would email and hopefully I'll get an appointment tomorrow. I'll keep trying!!

It's normal sometimes after birth - not at 4 months old!! Please phone 111 and get your child properly assessed at an out of hours gp appointment- which they will 💯 give you because this is an emergency situation.
Please don't rely on mumsnet to tell you it's fine to wait for a gp - It's not worth the risk. Please call them now

grassisjeweled · 25/01/2021 19:21

111

Namechange8471 · 25/01/2021 21:32

Yes 111 is the best thing to do right now.
