I’m still really unsettled about DS as he’s unexpectedly short for our family , and has a huge appetite and i feed him up as much as I can .
I mentioned to the GP his stool is consistently pale but they weren’t unduly concerned and said he has followed the same centile.
I give him a probiotic in juice in case it’s a gut thing and he’s been tested for coeliac (two of us have non gluten coeliac sensitivity but he tried an exclusion diet and doesn’t seem to react to wheat the way his sibling and I do)

Does anyone have any thoughts as I still feel worried . I last saw GP probably a year ago and Have a high respect for them, would you still get a second opinion ?
Thanks So much for any thoughts or advice

What centile is he on?
Did he drop centiles? Or always short?
How tall are parents?
Is he tired and irritable?
If he following his line then you may not get referral .
If you cut wheat before coeliac test it could skew result
Keep food diary for a week

Thanks for your kind reply.
I can’t remember his centile but they thought it’s always been low and it might have been 10%. Dad is 6ft 1, I’m 5ft 6.
He ate wheat normally til the coeliac test and has had it twice so both times.

He’s had bouts of anxiety (possible ASD ) which seems to have improved completely now and no irritability , he’s very cheerful . And always been quite sedentary but we are managing to take him on 8 k cycles so he looks fit and ok when we encourage him .

(He’s Often thought to be 3 years younger than he is and gets asked why he’s so small at school. I wish I knew as genetically looking at wider family seems surprising too)

Do you mean non coeliac gluten sensitivity?

Coeliac would be something I would think of , have they done bloods to check his thyroid etc ?
He may just be small, my DH is small for his family, probably because of one short Grandmother. (His parents are both tall, as were three Grandparents).
Or if anyone hit puberty late, he may have a massive growth spurt later than expected. I was tiny for years, but I hit puberty late, started my periods at 16, and grew until 19.

I will be so glad if he just grows late. He doesn’t have anyone small in the family at all, even great grandparents !

No I meant he was checked twice for coeliac . And later had a month Without wheat in case has a different form of non coeliac sensitivity but really has none of the signs we do (extreme tiredness , very painful stomach pains, diarrhoea etc) and his energy seemed constant either way . So the only thing still unusual is his unusually pale poo but it may not even be relevant - I just wondered if he doesn’t absorb nutrients well and don’t know if that’s something one can investigate or help

So two of you have coeliac disease in the family, is that right ?
The blood test for coeliac is not conclusive, I know a child who has a coeliac parent, her blood test was fine but she wasn’t growing well, and so her Mum pushed for the biopsy and she does have coeliac disease.
Has he had a blood test for the coeliac gene ? Have they run bloods for thyroid ?
Is he very thin as well as small, and how small is he ?

VirtualLearning · 14/01/2021 15:52

Sorry not clear , two of us have non coeliac gluten sensitivity and not coeliac. So we react badly to wheat but don’t have coeliac.
I can check about thyroid.
He looks the same size as children two years below him at school and we are all fairly slim but he doesn’t look too thin.
