Best Paediatrician in London?

Hi all!
We're worried about our new baby's belly. It's really distended / bloated and it look abnormal to us. We've visited the NHS GP and a hospital A&E as well and have been told that it is gas build up. We've been following their advice - burp her more, bicycle, reduce top ups after breastmilk but it's not getting any better and feels like it's gotten worse and she is also really uncomfortable. Would anyone know who are the leading paediatricians in London? We are happy to go private or NHS as long as it is an expert in the area. How is Evelina Children's Hospital? Or any other Children's Hospital / doctor that are the best? Any advice much appreciated!

Having given this warning about pricing the Portland specialists have been great with my dds, we’ve been seen very fast and really given me peace of mind.

I also want to mentionCMPA.
My baby’s belly was so bloated particularly after feeding. Very gassy, silent reflux, grunting in sleep, terrible mucus nappies, wanting to feed constantly, rash on face.
These are just some of the symptoms of it.
A bloated belly can make A baby miserable so you’re doing the right thing trying to find the cause.
Hope everything gets sorted Flowers

Yes Dd was very fussy, wouldn’t settle unless on top of me, had a very stuffy nose - would honk and grunt and sound like she couldn’t get a breath, very rumbly, distended tummy, and her poos were mucousy. She also had dry skin and a rash around her mouth.

It all cleared up when I cut out dairy. If you do use formula you’ll need a lactose free/dairy free one depending on if she is CMPA/allergic to dairy.

@Onceuponatimethen that's good to know! Do you think that their specialists are good? We want to make sure that we can get some good diagnosis and get to the bottom of this!

Another vote for Dr Eltumi at the Portland.
Find his listing on their site and call his secretary to make an appt or the Portland main line and be put through. They will ask you whether you're funded via private healthcare or self funded and take relevant payment details. They usually bill afterwards if it's private healthcare, I can't recall what the order is for self funded. Around £250 per appointment, plus any scans required.

My DS was exbf and I had to cut out dairy, soya, egg and wheat to isolate the issues. Around 2-3 weeks to notice a significant improvement, and 6 for CMPA symptoms to disappear entirely, but as pp said, we saw an improvement within the first week.

Good luck.

Also I know you are breastfeeding but we were given a prescription milk for CMPA and saw a different baby almost overnight!

Twilightstarbright · 13/01/2021 07:53

I just found Dr El Tumi an excellent doctor in general who looked at DS as a whole and didn't fob me off as an anxious new mother.

@Yolo773 @Ostryga thanks for the info! She doesn't have rashes but other than that it feels like you guys are actually describing my baby...!! Making me feel a bit better that these things do happen and you guys have resolved it!! I'll definitely try to cut cows milk and see if it makes a difference...!!

Was looking for the medical paper on citrus but haven't found it yet, but this one might interest you. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8537569/
cow milk and cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, ...), chocolate and onion make colic symptoms worse in breasted babies

bendybeep · 13/01/2021 08:30

Trust your instincts and get her seen to

You don't know what specialist you need yet, could be gastro or oncology or something else

Get her seen by general paeds and ask for a scan

Onceuponatimethen · 13/01/2021 09:20

Yes I think they are very good op. Our ENT was kind, trustworthy and amazing clinically. I always pick people who also have a leading nhs post.
