Bone marrow transplant for child

Dd2 nearly 10 has aplastic anaemia (and another auto immune illness) and we have just been told that her specialists think she should have a bone marrow transplant in the next 6 months. Thank God her sister is a match so we don't have to go through all of the difficulty finding a donor. The question is, had anyone here had a child go through this? How does it all work? They said she will need to be in hospital for 6-8 weeks - does a parent stay in the room with her during isolation? How on earth do you cope with that length of time away from the rest of your family?

The nearest specialist hospital that can do this for her is 2.5 hours drive away. We'll there is one closer in London but they felt that given the current covid situation, better to avoid it. Also the specialists in her other condition are there.

I'm. Sorry, I have no experience or advice.
My son is going thru ill health and possibly auto immune issues plus his blood tests are abnormal such as platelets and white blood cells. It's such a worry isn't it. X

Thank you, that's really helpful. Might show both DDs as it will help them understand a bit more what will happen.

Grenola, hope you get some answers for your son.
