Gave too much calpol

Hi everyone my baby had his vaccinations today and we tried giving him calpol at 3pm which he seemed like he spat half of it out (2.5ml dose) so stupidly we thought to give him another half but he spat a bit of that out too so he hasn't actually had it all but assuming he would have it would have been 3.75ml. I called 111 for advice and the woman told me I would be called back to asses which I was but the man said that I should only give him half as he's had one and a half doses but this was at 7:30 so 4 and a half hours after but he wasn't too sure so put me through to a GP. The GP said give him a full dose 6 hours after so 9pm. Now I'm stuck and I don't know what to do and I really don't want him to have a fever but then if I give him 2.5ml at 9 when could he have another 2.5ml? Any advice?

Relax.

Personally I’d not bother giving any more unless he gets a fever, you don’t have to give it. A mild fever isn’t bad. The advice used to only be one dose anyway, it really isn’t critical.

That said I had a dc in hospital a lot and they routinely gave double the bottle dose or more. Either way your baby will be fine.

I wouldn’t give and more unless they actually get a temp, not all babies do. I wouldn’t want to risk giving too much for the sake of it when he’s not even ill.

Although as said above, the does they give in hospital are far higher anyway (not that id recommend trying this at home.)

I wouldn't worry too much, he will he fine, but as peapotter said, I wouldn't bother giving him anymore at all unless he actually develops a fever. No point giving it if it isn't needed.

You’ve rung the GP and been given medical advice from a medical professional. Don’t just ignore that in favour of Internet people you don’t know! Otherwise what was the point of ringing the doctor?

Thanks PP for advice. I gave it him as he was crying but now he's settled and sound asleep. I won't give him anymore unless I think he needs it. I don't think he had any of the first dose but assuming be did then I'm going to lay off it.

@hhhhf It’s very difficult and stressful having a poorly baby. I’m sure he will be absolutely fine, and you did the right thing to think about it and get medical advice. I hope you get a decent sleep tonight. Most of us will have been there Flowers Brew Cake

At least he is settled now.

As aside note, you can get paracetamol suppositories for babies and children. Very handy when they are vomiting, or split the liquid medications out. Speak to your pharamcist for advise and dosing.

@DoubleTweenQueen thanks for your understanding. I had an emcs and he spent a week in NICU on antibiotics due to sepsis he came home at a week old but I had to hold his arm whilst the nurse took the cannula out. I've been a nervous wreck ever since.Sad definitely put me off having any more.

@Elouera thanks i should have a look at that. I do think it was my fault putting the calpol in too fast but I just wanted him to have it and go home. Did it more slowly this time and he was a lot better.
