Covid toes?

14 to D's has developed weirdly red and purple toes and bottom of feet. And today, he has red patches, spots and bruises around the edges of his feet. He says they are itchy. Does this sound like covid toes, even though it's over his feet, not just his toes?

Does he have covid?

CanWeHaveSnow · 10/01/2021 20:25

Noone knows

Covid Toes are a thing

So is a whole body rash

Neolara · 10/01/2021 20:30

No symptoms at all and he has only been out and about on family walks, so no mixing with others for ages. My dd had to self isolate over Xmas as someone in her class had covid. She has had no symptoms but in theory, i guess DS have caught it from her if she had it asymptomatically.

So the weird bruises / spots seem to have got worse. Any ideas what it could be? I had assumed not covid toes as it's on his foot, not toes.

Absolutely get this checked out. Ring your gp or 111 they can do a virtual appointment - as much as we're all here to support each other this is a medical thing not a MN thing x

Beamur · 14/01/2021 16:50

I would contact your GP or 111 and get some medical advice.

Choconuttolata · 14/01/2021 17:25

He needs to be seen due to possible changes in clotting in his blood that could be causing this. Covid-19 is known to cause issues with blood clotting, but there are also other conditions that need to be ruled out.

Neolara · 14/01/2021 18:04

Thanks all. I'll try to get a GP appointment tomorrow. I've checked him over and there are no bruises anywhere else.

If you roll a glass over the rash does it disappear?

OverTheRainbow88 · 14/01/2021 18:07

I would call 111

GypsyLee · 14/01/2021 18:07

My dd had covid toes back in March, nobody wanted to be bothered tbh.
Gp receptionist told us to get a test if we were worried.
Lasted about 6 weeks in all, and the marks/ scars whatever you'd call them were gone during the summer.
We were told you could get them at the end of a mild covid infection, perhaps a few weeks later.

ermmm2021 · 14/01/2021 18:08

Medical professional here op.

Please get this checked out this evening. If you call 111 ask them if you can send over a picture.
They have the facility to set you up with a phone appointment with someone you can send a picture to or they might ask you to go in but please don't wait until tomorrow. This needs checking out tonight.

MrsWildermac · 14/01/2021 18:09

I would contact 111 tonight OP. I don't think I would leave it until tomorrow.

Oh12lookanothernamechange1234 · 14/01/2021 18:09

I’d ring 111/ have a look at sepsis bruises.

GypsyLee · 14/01/2021 18:09

My dds were just on her toes and didn't look like this, corona toes are often mistaken for and look similar to chilblains.

musicinspring1 · 14/01/2021 18:11

I was going to say call 111 tonight too and get advice.
My DC had suspected Covid toes (after a GP had seen them via video call) and the purple was limited to just the toes and didn’t look like this either.

Sway19 · 14/01/2021 18:18

It would be irresponsible to wait until tomorrow. Ring 111 this evening

RavingAnnie · 14/01/2021 18:26

Yes please ring 111 tonight. This is not something that should be left to tomorrow.

scpips · 14/01/2021 18:40

Please check it out now and not tomorrow.
My son had something that looked like this a few years ago. It was all fine in the end but we took him to the E.R. (not in the U.K) and I cannot stress how seriously they took it. He was immediately seen and then admitted.

ermmm2021 · 14/01/2021 20:09

Hope all is ok OP x

Babyiskickingmyribs · 14/01/2021 20:21

I don’t want to scare you but Meningococcal can cause a rash like that. Get it seen by a dr now. Meningococcal moves really fast, a few hours delay in treatment can make a difference to the outcome. A&E will take it very seriously. It may well be nothing serious, but you need to rule out the possibility.

Neolara · 14/01/2021 22:21

Just a quick update. Have spoken to a GP and it looks like it's just chilblains. Phew.
The picture I posted I think makes it look worse than it is. The black on the sole of his foot is a shadow not a bruise. He's completely fine in himself and I'll keep monitoring to make sure nothing changes. And I've told him to start wearing socks!
