Hey can anyone help me. My 6yo has suddenly started wetting the bed in the last 2 nights, sometimes twice a night. He has been dry for over 3 years.he complains he is thirsty and seems to be weeing a lot. I have some urine test strips which are for other son as he has is prone to UTIs. I have tested 6yo urine 4 times since this morning and its consistently on the highest end of the scale for Glucose. I dont believe he has a UTI but I'm wondering if this reinforces my thinking of juvenile diabetes. Any ideas. I'm taking him to out of hours in the morning as I want to see how he is tonight.

I would be on to 111 now. Juvenile diabetes can get serious fast. While you're inevitably on hold you could Google for shelf life/false positives on test strips but a child should not have glucose in their urine

With his symptoms and the glucose in his urine, I'd suspect Type 1 diabetes and you should get urgent investigations tonight as undiagnosed and untreated your child can become unwell very quickly.

It is seriously abnormal to have ANY level of glucose in a child's urine. I'd get him seen tonight. New onset diabetes in children can cause them to decompensate fast. And it's a lot easier to get it under control if we see them before they are falling off the cliff.

Hey just an update. Straight after posting this I called 111 who told me to go straight to a&e. We're here now and his pinprick result was 27. Was told this should be nearer 7. Further bloods have revealed that it doesn't look like its being going on long...something to do with how it eats at body fat...sorry I'm taking this all in still. So basically caught it early. I'm terrified what this now means for us. No one in our family has had JD. I'm out of my depth.

About 2 years ago he went a bit 'funny' after eating an ice cream at a park. Faint like and sleepy. The pinprick result was high but they reckon it was to do with eating an ice cream shortly before and quickly discharged. I keep thinking back if that was the start of it.

I'm after reassurance somehow
They are 99.9 % sure its JD. Were just waiting for a doctor to update us.

Thanks all.

Well done for spotting it early and getting him properly tested.

Really well done for acting quickly. Best wishes for the learning curve you'll now be on.
