Contact lenses for teenagers?

Considering contacts for 13 yr old. He plays a lot of sport and his glasses are getting in his way. I know how that feels, I'm really short sighted, so I'm happy to consider all options to avoid him having the same issues.

So we've been given 3 options.

Daily disposables he just wears for rugby or swimming or whenever and his glasses the rest of the time

Overnight lenses that reshape your eye while you sleep so your vision is perfect for the next day

MiSight lenses which you wear during the day and over time they slow down the progression of short sightedness over time, so instead of ending up -9 like me you might end up -5 which is a lot more manageable.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience of these lenses. I know adults can wear the overnight ones too so if you've used them can you tell me how you find them please?

We've got an appointment in a few days with the optician but it would be good to hear some first hand experiences. I've been looking online but all the reviews seem very positive and glowing, suggests to me they're maybe not so independent?

Thank you

@Jamesgalway They don't work for everyone. Having said that, if she finds them comfortable and easily to insert and remove, there's very little downside (except cost) to her continuing with them.
As the PP said, her prescription could have changed even more without them.
What was her prescription was she at the start and what is it now and what prescription are her parents?

Spending time outdoors and ensuring that she's managing close work with lots of breaks (and not spending a lot of time on devices) is also important in managing myopia progression.

Both my boys wear MiSight. Eldest is 18 and has worn them for a few years now and optician has just taken him off of them as his eyesight has got progressively worse and changed considerably in the last six months ... I am so disappointed about the money we have wasted.
Youngest is 14, has worn them for a year and his prescription has got worse but not at the level of his brother. I've agreed to give him another six months on them and if no stability he'll come off them too.
I know some people really rate them but based on out experience I don't believe the MiSight are worth the money

so sad to hear bad experience with MiSight. I will let my girl wearing it for 1 more year to see how her eyesight develops and probably will stop if the change in her prescription gets really worse. Hope to hear more good news from other parents

I’m currently at a conference and this slide has just been shown - I remembered your age-related post and thought you’d find this interesting…
