8 yo DD developing in one breast

My DD aged 8 (tall for age and will be 9 in the spring) has started to grow a breast but only on one side.

Firstly - is this unusually young? My eldest DD didn’t start developing until she was 10 and I’m fairly certain I was 10 when I did.

Secondly - is it normal to only grow on one side? Again, my eldest (and myself) developed both breasts at the same time.

Thank you.

Not sure bout the developing on one side but DD will be 9 in spring too and I can see her starting to develop. Tall and slim too

That’s reassuring, thank you.

Yes it's normal. After googling it and speaking to the doctor it's likely to start in one breast. My daughter was 8 when it first came and then disappeared, then come back in the other breast. It was so painful for her she couldn't bare anything touching them. I had to buy really thin padded vest tops. Now she's 10 she has breast buds in both breasts and can definitely see they are developing. She's slim as well but quite small in height. Wouldn't worry about it.

My DD started on one side first - but has developed perfectly normally on both.

It’s not unusual at all, lots of girls develop on one side first. Just reassure her is natural. My niece developed on one side, it took ages for her other side to develop, then her other one suddenly popped out one day. Luckily she is a very confident young lady and thought it was highly amusing, not many girls her age would.

As for age, I was in bras by the time I was 9. My Dd is the same age as yours and I’ve started to keep an eye on her as I fully expect her to start developing soon as all the women on my maternal side were early developers.

Fairly common
