DD 6 has swollen lymph nodes for 4 months

DD has swollen lymph nodes at the back of her neck since august, one you can really feel and there are 2 below it that is small. She had blood work done including peripheral smear and ultrasound. Ultrasound says the nodes are around 1.4 cm x 0.7 (biggest). I am kind of hesitant to do a biopsy as it might be too invasive for her as she is not having any symptoms and not feeling sick in any way. She had persistent allergic rhinitis back then but she has been given meds for that and is a lot better now, just that the nodes are still there. Any thoughts?

What do the doctors say? If the doctors say she needs a biopsy, then she needs one. It’s the only way to diagnose some forms of lymphoma as they don’t show up in the blood. You might feel it’s ‘too invasive’, but it’s a lot less invasive if you can deal with these things earlier rather than later.

Sorry, that was probably a bit short. Having said that, my son’s oncologist isn’t hugely worried about lymph nodes less than 2cm. Lymphoma nodes can be quite distinctive on an ultrasound I believe, and paediatricians are very experienced at feeling ‘normal’ nodes vs lymphoma ones. Don’t panic but do go with what your doctors suggest.

My DH had a similar issue - after several hospital appointments, he was referred for a biopsy, however by the time the appointment came the lymph nodes had begun to reduce in size. They believe it was due to long covid (He had covid in March, quite ill but not hospitalised). I would 100% only rely on expert advice at the hospital/Doctors though, and insist that tests are done to get to the root cause. Hopefully, you are both okay, must be very worrying!

Just wanted to say - I had a swollen gland/node in my neck as a teen. GP checked me over/ did bloods etc and it showed I'd had some kind of mild infection(despite not feeling ill). That gland never went back to normal size and when I went back to get it checked, the GP said it's perfectly normal for swollen nodes to stay enlarged once they've swollen, even if whatever caused them is resolved.
