Pants for bed too

If she’s itchy now I would stick her in a bath just to rinse them off. They come out at night and wriggle round to the vagina from the bottom ( so the Vaseline creates a barrier that’s hard to cross). They’re light sensitive so don’t put a light on until you’re poised to catch them - I’ve used cotton wool buds or damp cotton wool. My DD has had them a few times because she’s a thumb sucker.

Yup pharmacist can prescribe you medication. The whole family will need to take it. Wash all bedding, hover the mattress and around the bed. Hand washing all the time, make sure she's wearing underwear in bed, change in the morning and wash the area as soon as she is up as they lay the eggs at night, thats what causes the itching.
Our pharmacist will only prescribe one lot of medication now. They used to give 2 so you could take it, then take it 2 weeks later. Now your expected to to get rid of them with strict hygiene measures 🙄 so I order an extra pack online or just buy over the counter. Weve had them several times because my eldest is a terrible bail biter while he's at school.

Poor you, things I’ve found have helped whilst waiting the couple of nights for the meds to kick in is bath/bottom wash before bed and in the morning (to wash away newly laid eggs), and putting baseline round her bottom as apparently that helps stop them lay the eggs which is actually what causes most of the itching.
If you can somehow gently get it out of her vaginal area eg with shower or something that would be good
It can be so uncomfortable for them but will improve within a few days

Diddlysquatty · 19/12/2020 23:22

*vaseline not baseline!

sashagabadon · 19/12/2020 23:23

Ovex is the solution. Really easy. One tablet then another one about a week later. My son gets this regularly. I think due to lack of hand hygiene Confused

marvelousmadmadammim · 19/12/2020 23:37

Stay away from Google as well.
There are some real nut jobs out there who believe that they can't be got rid of. Real conspiracy stuff around it, some with obvious mental health issues but others sound believable.

We've had them lots and now always have a family dose of OVEX in the house.

It won't be immediate relief and can take a few days.
We would have a good wash before bed and maybe if they were disrupting sleep during the night.
Pants on over night
Hot wash bedding, towels and pj's
Damp dust bedrooms and bathrooms
Hoover after changing bedding and dusting
Shower first thing
No naked bottoms anywhere
Second dose of ovex after 2 weeks to be sure you've killed off the second wave
They are very irritating but easily got ride of.

If worms, get her clean bedding make sure she cleans her nails. Also don,t worry very common prob.

Laughnaff · 19/12/2020 23:44

My daughter 8 had this two weeks ago. Came into the room crying as she wiped herself and there was a white wormy thing moving. Was going to go into the chemist but it was full, didn’t want to ask in front of everyone. So got a phone consultation with doc. She prescribed ovex for the whole family. She seems fine now. Washed everything towels, bedding, nails cleaned, hoovered mattress and bedroom thoroughly. teaching the importance of hand washing.

Emmelina · 19/12/2020 23:52

Really common in little girls! They don’t always remember to wipe front to back at that age. You’ll be able to get treatment OTC. The whole family will need treating, beds stripped and hot washed. Make sure nails are nice and short.

CornishTiger · 19/12/2020 23:57

And repeat the treatment after 2 wks otherwise the eggs that are left behind will hatch and you’ll start the process again!

Coffeeandcocopops · 19/12/2020 23:58

We called our son’s “Ned”.

blankiesandunicorns · 19/12/2020 23:59

My daughter has had this twice and it's horrible to see, I didn't tell her what it was as knew it's freak her out. But yes as other have said, ovex is what you need and clears it up pretty quickly. It's alarming but not serious

Summer2021please · 20/12/2020 07:04

You don’t need to see a doctor. Just buy ovex from chemist. Warm baths encourage them out too. Showering of bathing in the morning is good. Good hand hygiene, clean pjs every night, regularly cleaning bedding and surfaces will help!

AdultHumanFemale · 20/12/2020 07:20

It has just wriggled from her bottom to her vulva. I read on Google some years ago, when my DD had them, about thread worms in the vagina, but realised it was just anatomical confusion; they may travel to the vulva but are very unlikely to enter the actual vagina, and certainly wouldn't set up a colony in the vagina as they are creatures of the digestive system.

Witchend · 20/12/2020 15:28

I always told mine they had worms and it didn't creep them out.
Although I remember a conversation with ds at about that age when we were walking along the pavement after it had rained hard. There was an earthworm on the pavement and he picked it up to put it back in a garden and I heard him say to it: "I wonder whose bottom you fell out of."
🤣

GruffyLove · 21/12/2020 08:58

My DDs have never freaked out when they’ve had them (once each) think by telling them we could explain what was happening and why important to keep washing hands

Divebar · 21/12/2020 09:30

You just need to be matter of fact about it. They’re very common because little kids are not always great at hand washing and are forever putting their hands / fingers in and around their mouth

Toagoodfuture · 29/12/2020 14:27

How come again in 6 months?

Toagoodfuture · 29/12/2020 14:36

How do you know when these things are gone? My LO got treated for them 8 days ago after complaining of sore and itchy lady bits then itchy bum😞 found one on her butt but there has been no more and I’m not seeing any dead in stools?! Do they disintegrate and go unnoticed if it’s not a heavy infestation? These are horrendous I’m not built for this 🤯
