Posting really for a hand old and any advice.
My 16 year old daughter is experiencing a really nasty flare up of Trigeminal Neuralgia. We went to A&E twice over the weekend, came away with more meds, as there isn't much they can do. Currently waiting on appointment to be seen by a NeuroSurgeon. I'm a single parent and am at my wits end.

Handhold for your poor daughter. I have had this since about 18 and flares up are so miserable. I dont think this cold weather helps so make sure she is warm and covered up. Can she manage warm drinks and soft food and soup. I hope she feels better soon. If she can still clean her teeth I use a baby toothbrush. Flowers

Thank you Mrs Twitcher. She's unable to eat or drink at the moment. Hoping once the Tramadol kicks in, she will manage some thing. If not, looks like another trip to A&E.

Has she been given gabapentin or pregablin, which specifically treat nerve pain? If not, ask for one of these to be prescribed if you need to go back.

MrsTwitcher · 07/12/2020 12:55

When did she last have anything to drink. Poor girl. I was prescribed diazepam and codeine but things may well have changed and different meds given like Arosada says.

Thank you all. We are back in A&E. Her regular dose of Tregretol no longer seems to be working. Can't eat or drink so may well need IV fluids and pain relief. Horrible seeing her is so much pain.

Hope she begins to feel better soon. We're here if you need us.

I have nothing useful to offer but I’m sending you both a massive handhold. Trigeminal Neuralgia is horrific. I really hope her pain improves ASAP Flowers

After 6 hours in A&E we are finally on a ward. She's on IV morphine for the pain which has made a huge difference, she's now able to eat and drink. The registrar was going to send us home, but I put my foot down (unlike me,) and insisted she was admitted.
Thanks again for your messages.

Thank goodness. She is in the right place and must feel such relief if the pain is under control now.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 07/12/2020 20:41

Good for you! Well done.

A peaceful night and she is still fast asleep. I'm havinga wobble this morning, probably due to lack of sleep. Looks increasingly likely she will need surgery to correct this problem.

Poor poor girl my dm has this so I know how excruciating it is. I really hope things improve soon, my dm's flares up in the cold weather too and with stress.

We daughter was admitted to St. George’s last night. Our local hospital sent us home, after me begging for her to stay another night. Still waiting on a plan for her treatment. She hasn’t eaten in over 24 hours. Morphine is the only painkiller which works and they are refusing to give it to her. What do I do next??

Hi I recently had my first attack it was agony. Presumed ear infection or teeth related but X-rays showed all clear. The pain was around my cheek mainly but sometimes moved towards temple or down to teeth in waves
I am totally free of pain now after getting a gum guard from boots , along with physiotherapy on my neck and shoulder area ( acupuncture )
I believe a combination of being out of alignment ( I’m an artist) along with a freezing cold work shop and being stressed about not seeing my family in lockdown ( since seen my heavily pregnant daughter) all played apart in building up around my jaw area ,Keeping warm is a must. It hit home when the physio pressed around my neck area on the painful side and the pain was felt up into my ear / cheek area. I do daily gentle stretches , these have all worked for me although still early days from early December - holistic whole body approach rather than focusing on the spot where pain seems to have worked for me ( physios are still allowed to be open in lockdown ) Hope this helps your daughter .
