im sorry if im posting this in the wrong place. My little girl hates having her hair washed and we just usually wet flannel it to avoid the upset (shes 3 so we are hoping she ll get better with age !) Anyway she has nits at the moment and gets hysterical when i try and wash conditioner out. I just wondered if anyone has used the electric zappers or has found any way to get rid of nits without getting hair wet ? thank you

I've heard that straightening hair kills nits (not sure as we haven't had nits yet). Could you sell it to her as a princess (or whatever she's into) pamper session? It might kill them off and let you get a good comb through her hair?

Have you tried doing it with swimming goggles on? DD hated it too(was easier to bathe the cat) and turned out it was the water/shampoo going in her eyes/face that she hated.

Try to make bath time a game op.

Does she come in (not in the bath) the bathroom when youre having a bath at all? You could wear a swimming costume for this. I used bubbles with my dd. Who was also terrified.

Let her see you putting your hair under the water. Let her put soap on your hair and wash it out.

The only way I've ever been able to get nits out (without chemicals) is conditioner (it is the best way I've found).

Explain to her that she has horrible biting bugs in her hair and that the only way to get them to leave is with water. Biting bugs hate water.

God I hate nits. I'm scratching my head now.

You can get bath hats so the water doesnt go over her face

I feel for you, I had two water screamers.

Goggles worked with one, the other absolutely hated them (so do I)
A couple of flannels on standy by, all folded up and one placed over their eyes - my screamer would get worse if the flannels got too wet

Encouraging them to lie down in the water to rinse the hair in the bath water to get rid of as much water as possible, then the final rinse with clean water isn't as hard on the eardrums.

Leaning the head back and slowly pouring the water over their head. With one it was the feeling of the shower

There is also a weird hat/ring thing that goes around their heads to prevent the water going into the eyes/ears/down the face.

If it's an ear thing, reusable ear protectors.

The chemical stuff isn't worth it.
Conditioner with tea tree is the best.
If rife the zappers can be useful to zap loads in one go. However, ime you still need to use another method.

Don't forget to wash towels, clothes worn while combing and bedding. Recomb every 2/3 days. The. beauty of the conditioner is from the second time you find you don't use as much and is fine as a leave in conditioner.

Yes I know, rinsing hair in bath water and leaving in conditioner for a day or two is a bit grim, but when it's really distressing them out what can you do?

*Ear plugs

thank you all very much for your replies. I will try them out. Before she was ok with a super dad (her dad holding her over sink while i rinsed hair ) but yesterday she didnt want that and i didnt know what to do next. I really appreciate your replies, I dont know many people to ask and being able to ask on here is great. Thank you so much

The electric things don't help at all. Nitty gritty and conditioner. Can you give her an ipad / let her watch TV / eat snacks while you do it? For rinsing have you got one of the rings to stop water getting in her eyes or put her in the shower with you so it's more of a game?
