DD has verrucas & sweaty feet, nothing works!

Surely I can't be the only one who's had this problem. She is 8, & has developed 8 verrucas so far over the last few months. We have tried bazuka & Salactol, both with a plaster over. It won't stay on more than a few minutes. Duct tape, same. Haven't tried banana skin due to the above. Have tried a few brands & types of plasters.

I'm not keen to freeze 8 verrucas as it's more than a mile walk to school & I am worried she will be too uncomfortable to manage it. I had verrucas frozen off many years ago & it was really painful, & although it got rid of the ones that were treated, the others remained for several more years.

Is there a specific brand of plaster that is better on sweaty feet? Anything else that will work?

Immune suppressed DD couldn't get rid of hers, painted it with nail varnish, several layers directly onto it with no prior prep, didn't file or anything. Repeated every day for a week or two (it seemed to rub off over the day), it was the only thing that worked!

unicornparty · 02/12/2020 09:39

Has she been seen by a dr? That's a lot of veruccas and can be a sign of an issue with her immune system.

I've nothing to add re the verrucas, but re the sweaty feet situation, rather than using deodorant can I ask what materials her shoes are made from?

Leather and /or other natural materials are best as they allow the skin to breathe. Man made fibres don't, plus they trap moisture causing sweaty. sometimes smelly feet.

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 03/12/2020 07:19

We always get her shoes that are made of only leather or fabric. Never plastic type shoes. I don't have sweaty feet, thank goodness, shoes last me absolutely years & never smell at all, but a pair only ever lasts DH a couple of years at most & it's partly due to the sweaty feet issue.

My DD has got a particularly stubborn verruca that won’t shift and that she won’t let me touch at all, even in her sleep I can’t poke it too much before she moves her foot.

Does the nail varnish method need filing down every day?
Currently using salicylic acid but it’s just creating a build up as I can’t file it.

@OrangeIsTheNewTwat have you tried the stuff that stops sweating, I don’t know what it’s called but it’s meant for underarm use, might be worth a go

ouchmyfeet · 03/12/2020 22:14

I took my DS to the GP about his as he had loads. She prescribed something stronger than the over the counter stuff, although I think it was still salicylic acid, just in a higher concentration.

It worked brilliantly. I used it on a verruca I'd had for 6 years and it cleared that up too

LizzieSiddal · 03/12/2020 22:15

I used to use tweezers on my Dds stubborn verrucas, picking out the black bit in the middle. I’d then file them down. You have to do it frequently over a few weeks and they go.

pinkpetal2 · 03/12/2020 22:19

I don't know if anyone else has said this nut I had them bad as a kid. A doctor told my mum to tape banana skins to them on my feet and put socks on overnight.
They was able to be pulled out fast with no pain and gone within days. Shock

Berthatydfil · 03/12/2020 22:23

Glutarol this soaks into the skin

mrsjackrussell · 03/12/2020 22:40

The chiropodist said that the verrucas wouldn't go without treating the sweaty feet first. So he sent us away with driclor deodorant to use for a couple of weeks then treated the verrucas with some sort of acid. She had approximately 100 verrucas and they all went. I had tried over the counter remedies but no good. It was just strange with the sweaty feet thing. Maybe the verrucas like sweat.

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 04/12/2020 18:06

We've been persisting with different types of plasters because I'm really not keen on freezing them out, very painful. So far we've had the best luck with hydrocolloid plasters. Thanks for all the suggestions, we're going to try everything until something works.

Rather than traditional plasters could you try sports/KT tape ? Its not cheap, but is designed to stay put through sweating and activity. You can get 3 day or 5 day stuff and mine survives a bath or shower.

Berthatydfil · 07/12/2020 20:06

What about those cheap former type exfoliating socks you get in places like B&m?
Put Vaseline anywhere that’s not verrucas. Leave it on overnight

LindaEllen · 07/12/2020 20:18

This is a completely unscientific thing but I may as well tell you! I had verrucas when I was a child, and my mum used to use Bazooka on them. I found that quite painful, but she made me let her do it because she told me if I didn't I'd have to go to the hospital to have them frozen off.

I got a few more when I was a teen, and I was too embarrassed to tell her. I remembered her saying that I'd have to have them frozen off, so I decided to do it myself. I literally got ice from the freezer and rested my foot on it until it melted. I don't remember it being uncomfortable but I suppose it might have been.

Anyway, they went away. I don't know if they can go away on their own, as it might have just been a coincidence, but it seemed to work anyway!

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 07/12/2020 20:31

Nice idea @Berthatydfil but she is one of the world's most wriggly dleepers & I don't think they'd stay on! But we've actually found that hydrocolloid plasters are staying on reasonably well. We're just using the cheap ones, not the fancy padded blister plasters. We're currently trying Bazuka (which won't stay on by itself, but the hydrocolloid plasters will keep it in place). If that doesn't work we'll try banana peel etc until something does.

Hopefully if someone has the same problem as us they'll find this thread.

This may also work, it’s an ointment with a high salicylic acid content. You just rub it into the skin and it soaks in quite quickly. So you could just apply it to the area of the verrucca.
