10 year old suddenly clumsy and mixing up words

I have a 10 year old daughter who is suddenly very clumsy. At first I thought she needed glasses as she would walk into doors, and trip over things on the floor. We got her tested and she has glasses now. Still with glasses she is still hurting herself and recently bruised her arm walking into the wall? She’s always been very good at talking but now mixes up words when talking. Recently we were talking about a German shepherd , she said I can’t wait for a sherman gherpherd. It’s happened a lot recently and i can’t for the life of me get a doctors appointment. Google is not helping! Is this normal??

I've been thinking of you, I'm glad you've been seen and

confusednortherner · 21/11/2020 20:01

Hope the follow up goes well

Oreservoir · 21/11/2020 20:02

You’ve done the right thing. Hopefully it will be something minor but better to get your dd checked out.

saraclara · 21/11/2020 20:02

I'm glad you've been seen and that they haven't just fobbed you off. All the best with the MRI.

Napqueen1234 · 21/11/2020 20:03

Thinking of you and DD. Did the doctors have any clue with it could be? Please let us know if she’s ok.

itsgettingweird · 21/11/2020 20:07

I'm so angry on your behalf you can't get a go appointment with those symptoms.

Well done for getting into a and e and getting mri booked.

They didn’t say anything, I feel like they we’re trying to avoid any big scary words. They really didn’t say much about anything other than she passed the neurological tests. I praying they don’t think it’s that serious because they let us leave.

Our doctors are a nightmare to get through to on the phone, and when I did they offered me a phone consultation. But hopefully now it’s sorted and we will get to the bottom of it.

Thank you so much everyone for the well wishes and thoughts ❤️

Thinking of you. I'm really glad you got an MRI booked. Next week is soon.
In any case, if her condition worsens, go straight back and don't leave until you're satisfied. Fingers crossed.

NaughtipussMaximus · 21/11/2020 20:58

It’s great that they’re going to do an MRI, OP. if it lessens your fear somewhat, I started doing this in my thirties (mixing words up, bumping into things etc) and was eventually diagnosed with Vitamin B12 deficiency, which can cause neurological symptoms.

justilou1 · 22/11/2020 01:35

I am very pleased that you were heard and that your lovely DD will have an MRI. Please do her a favour and gently inform her that while they are not scary, and nothing in the MRI touches her at all, it’s boring and long and loud. Maybe show her a video of one (with noises) so that she’s a little bit prepared - otherwise it can be claustrophobic and frightening. (If kids are prepared, they’re utterly fine - I promise. All of mine have one every two years to rule out an inherited neurological disease.)

incognitomum · 22/11/2020 01:45

I'm pleased you listened. Really hoping it's nothing ❤

IdblowJonSnow · 22/11/2020 01:48

All the best for the MRI.
Glad your lovely DD has been seen.

incognitomum · 24/11/2020 20:28

@Marioodd I hope dd is ok?

Marioodd · 24/11/2020 21:13

I’m not sure how to tag but thank you so much for checking in! She had the MRI yesterday which was clear thank god. So the doctors feel they can relax a bit, they’ve taken her bloods so just waiting on those results now.

Hope everything is ok 🤞

incognitomum · 24/11/2020 21:28

Is her speech any better?

DailyCandy · 25/11/2020 00:23

What an enormous relief! Excellent news. X

justilou1 · 25/11/2020 01:07

Hope it all works out okay, OP. I have to say that I still have concerns with her symptoms if they are A) new to her and B) still on-going.
Please keep an eye out for sleepiness/staring into space/unusual lapses in concentration (during a sentence, etc...) also look at her eyes tracking when she is on screens and watching the tv... Do they look like they are tracking normally? In unison? Does she seem spacey?

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 25/11/2020 07:46

Well, that’s a relief.

How’s your daughter doing?

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 25/11/2020 10:36

Good news, OP.

PinkPlantCase · 25/11/2020 10:40

So glad you’ve got her checked out OP! I did wonder if it is perhaps just the impact of puberty and a change of hormones?

It’s the kind of diagnosis I can imagine the doctors defaulting to if tests don’t show anything.

nemeton · 25/11/2020 10:43

So glad to hear it was clear.
Maybe an ear infection could affect her balance? The general wooziness from being poorly can make them mix up words sometimes. Hope she's making a full recovery Thanks

BunnyMacDougal · 25/11/2020 10:44

I was going to ask about puberty too.

Around the time my period is due, I get really tongue-tied and clumsy.

justilou1 · 25/11/2020 22:01

I don’t think you should just assume this is puberty. Keep an eye on her.

frustrationcentral · 26/11/2020 07:08
