Can anyone give me any advice please?

Dc15 is in hospital with glandular fever.

They were taken in last night as was so ill they thought it was meningitis so emergency first responder man called an ambulance. Shaking uncontrollably, fever, hallucinations, vomiting and the worst headache.

Had already tested negative for CF.

DH is there in hospital as only one of us can go in and have another DC at home.

What do I need to know in terms of what to expect and help with recovery.

Is in the middle of mocks so that's out of the window.

They already have an over reactive immune system so I'm pessimistic about recovery as prone to body overreacting to viruses and infections.

I had glandular fever closely followed by shingles as a teen. I was back in school a few weeks later but looking back it was too soon. I felt totally exhausted every day but didn’t really understand why.Sad

5zeds that must have been awful, shingles is bad enough in terms of fatigue.

Did you have any long lasting effects? I'm worried about how they'll cope with constant fatigue, not playing sport and the pressure of missing exams which could be so much more important this year.

I didn’t have the kind of parents who recognised post viral fatigue (or sickness much) so I just got on with. I honestly don’t think I was back to myself for about 9-12 months but I think with rest and support it would be more manageable.

Not a funny subject but I clicked on this thinking gf was girlfriend not glandular fever Blush I thought why on earth do you need to know anything - leave the lad alone.
The fact it's in children's Heath didn't alert me either!
I hope your DS is on the mend soon Thanks

How is it going OP? My 15 year old has been ill at home now for 9 days - very weak and tired but no fever. Pain in throat and stomach. Eats and drinks ok.

Also about to miss their mocks. Gets readily anxious and prone to illness - 5 days ill with eye infection, for example. I suspect anxiety overloads their immune system but maybe not.

Dr thinks it might be GF. We've also just sent off a covid test today though they don't have any of the main symptoms. Tonsillitis was considered but ruled out.
