Our call for A&E help?

Twinkie01 · 14/11/2020 02:36

DS has just come into our room. He's had a headache on and off for a couple of days and now is visibly shaking and can't stop it and he's started throwing up. He's 15 and the size, weight of a man, no temp, sore throat, loss of taste smell.

999 can't send ambulance, someone is going to ring us but said it's our call whether to take him to A&E but they might not let him in??

He's lucid too.

Do I just chance it? We're 25 minutes from nearest A&E? Non Covid I would be already in the car but what if they won't see him?

Take him in. I can't imagine they wouldn't see him.

Emelene · 14/11/2020 02:37

Why won't they take him? You sound really concerned OP, I would probably head to A and E. All the best for your son x

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 14/11/2020 03:27

Hope everything is ok

Spaghettibetty345 · 14/11/2020 03:31

A&e now

Loftyloft · 14/11/2020 03:38

I’d take him. They may do a rapid covid test before they let him in, as it may well be covid, but sounds like he needs medical attention.

Twinkie01 · 14/11/2020 04:13

Thank you. I brought him. We're here now. Will only test if he's admitted, they think it could be Corona Virus so I've booked a drive in test for the morning.

There's one other child in the parade A&E and only 2 people in the main bit. V v quiet.

Thank you for your advice and kind wishes.

They will see him.

Acute headache + vomiting is a bit of a red flag. Probably needs a CT head. Take him ASAP.

QueenOfPain · 14/11/2020 04:17

Sorry, just seen that you’ve taken him. Good.

Gunpowder · 14/11/2020 04:27

Hope he’s ok. Flowers

Bluewavescrashing · 14/11/2020 04:28

Thinking of you OP. Hope he gets better quickly.

BullshitVivienne · 14/11/2020 08:00

Hope he's ok, fingers crossed.

FippertyGibbett · 14/11/2020 08:01

How is he this morning OP ?

QuacksInTheDark · 14/11/2020 08:03

How is OP? I had similar symptoms in the middle of the night also with right sided weakness and and slurred speech. It turned out to be a hemiplegic migraine, scary but not life threatening and treatable. Fingers crossed that’s what it is for your DS

Twinkie01 · 14/11/2020 08:17

We did think migraine as I used to get FHM and it's hereditary as my mum got them.

Test this morning and then await results which nurse said have been through in 48 hours.

He has health anxiety so does tend to work himself up which snowballs and he then gets symptoms caused by his anxiety.

Just fingers crossed it's not the virus.

Thank you everyone it's so hard to know what to do these days.

NB some hospital A and E departments, such as our local one in North West London’s, are not dealing with children .

Emelene · 14/11/2020 16:42

@Twinkie01 - how is he doing? I'm glad you got seen x

Twinkie01 · 14/11/2020 17:14

Emelene thank you for asking. He seems a bit brighter. Has had a long sleep and some peanut butter and banana on toast. He said his headache has gone.

I'm just hoping it's not the virus now. It was so scary for him to be shaking so much he couldn't get out of bed, he'd telephoned me but I had my phone in bedtime mode in the other room as I don't like phones where you sleep. I think I'll keep it in here tonight.

We're going to order a domino's, if anything will get him up and eating it's the smell of that.

Thank you again for asking.

My brother had awful migraines as a teenager. I remember once he had a very funny turn where it was almost like a fit. My mum, who is a children's nurse, was very worried.

He used Migraleve, from the pharmacy.

I suppose you could say he 'grew out of them'. He's 30 now and doesn't suffer anymore, perhaps it was hormones.

QuacksInTheDark · 14/11/2020 21:03

Migraines can be horrific. When I had mine I honestly thought I was having a brain haemorrhage and then the vomiting and paralysis started and I was petrified something terrible was happening to me. The most terrifying few hours of my life, it did pass slowly and within 24hrs I was almost back to normal though absolutely exhausted and all the colour had drained from my face.
I really hope he feels better soon OP and it’s nothing too sinister.

Twinkie01 · 15/11/2020 20:37

Must have been a migraine, COVID test just come back negative.

I'll book to take him to the GP after school one day this week.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.

Poor did has inherited my head!!
