Constipation since starting solids

My baby will be turning 1 in a couple of weeks but ever since we started weaning, she's suffered from constipation. We started weaning at 6 months and done purée vegetables to start with. It was like as soon as we started on solids, so did the constipation.

We went to the doctor who prescribed lactulose at first (2.5ml twice a day) which didn't work so the doctor suggested 5ml twice a day. This still didn't work so the doctor prescribed Senokot (3ml) and told me to do that until her bowel movements are better then stop the senokot and just use lactulose then reduce gradually.

She's been doing okay recently (11.5 months!) and tried stopping the senokot but she's straight back to being constipated 😔 She eats well and like an athlete! So so healthy, I always make sure it's a balanced meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a veggie/fruit option. Have tried pears/prunes/fruit juice too.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm going to call the doctor soon - he said to call back if things weren't better by her first birthday 😔

I've not heard of senokot being used for children. Its movicol that I've heard of being used in that age group

Thanks - I did mention that to the doctor but he said we're better to start off with senokot. Might ask to try Movicol instead!

What does she eat?
Many food can cause constipation in those predisposed, so milk and cheese come first, then rice (and rice cakes, rice crackers, ....) , bananas, white toast and other normal flour products .

Ideally you want to tackle the issue with her diet more than medication,
Unless medicated, how often does she go?
As my son's gastroenterologist said, being constipated isn't about having a poo every day, but emptying your bowels . One poo every three days and a hard consistency is a sign of constipation

She eats very healthily so that's not the issue.

I didn't say she wasn't eating healthy, just asked what she eats.

Constipation started when she started eating, so the question about " what is she eating" is legitimate.

Carrots are super healthy but in some babies carrots ( and squash) can cause constipation. The same with yoghurt, even the healthy no sugar real one

Yep... carrots make my DS constipated
