A couple of months ago my child was complaining of an itchy head - checked for nits- saw some activity. Went to pharmacy and he recommended Lyclear. Tried that plus combing with a nitty gritty every few days and got to the point where I saw nothing despite spending an hour or so combing under spotlights. Job done or so I thought.....

A couple of weeks later I saw all these black specks on his scalp...google tells me this is lice poo....arrghhhh....so back to combing and then tried the Hedrin mousse and treated twice seven days apart. Last treatment was on Friday.

Today in the sunshine I was looking through his hair...and saw absolutely loads of e black specks in a couple of areas in his hair. Couldn’t see any lice or nits. I’m absolutely demented. I brushed them away and they fell away easily like dandruff.

I most add that through all the combing I only found one or two nits in the beginning, no live lice so where is all the poo Coming from if it is indeed poo.

I must add that my husband and I both did the lyclear treatment and I also did the hedrin plus some combing in between and found nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas re these black specks? If it is evidence of lice what on earth can I do? I have spent the last month nonstop combing and o can’t bear it.

When I was younger my mum put vinegar on my head over night, I pretty sure it worked?!
Worth a try!

Comb comb and comb again OP..,it really is the only way. Nits/headlice are get more resistance to the chemical treatments unfortunately

Coconut shampoo. They make the hair so smooth that lice can't stick to them. Much better than doing repeated chemical hair treatments

Keep going with conditioner and the nitty gritty comb

Both my DD's hair is waist length. We had one fun 3 week camping trip once..... NOT!!

Thanks to all for your comments. My son has lots of mega curly hair so the combing is a nightmare for all parties. But the black specks... does anyone know what these are? Not actual headlice I think but is it really their poo?

A sure fire way to get rid once and for all is to straighten the hair.
The lice and eggs can't take the heat.

Northernsoullover · 08/11/2020 21:04

@AvoidingRealHumans nonsense. Sure it would frazzle the adventurous ones but you wouldn't get anywhere near the scalp with straighteners.

dementedpixie · 08/11/2020 21:04

If you arent finding lice when you comb then it doesn't sound like he has headlice.

AvoidingRealHumans · 08/11/2020 21:07

@Northernsoullover well it worked for me 🤷‍♀️ worth a try for Op.

Buckets of conditioner and the nitty gritty comb. My daughter has waist length curly hair, no way was she cutting it. We managed to eradicate them.

Minesateaorthree · 15/11/2020 22:44

Could just be a bit of normal dirt?
If he's been outside especially when it's windy tiny black specs can just be blown in. Or maybe something he leans against, under a hood, toys, etc it sounds like you've thoroughly treated him so its quite possible there are no live lice still.
