Pinworms or not? Urgent help, daughter in distress

Hi all,
Every now and then recently, like every few days, DD1 (2.5 years old) complains her bum hurts and is kind of jumpy for a few seconds and squirms in pain - this has been during the day.
I was worried it was worms but then checked and nothing at night when she slept (checked with a torch etc). Also nothing found in poo.
In bed this morning before she woke up, she was scratching her front pubic area. Woke up and changed her nappy, it was red and a bit rashy where the nappy is done up, below belly button. She was scratching loads and in a lot of discomfort.
Then later today, changed her nappy, again discomfort and some white bits in her front area. I guess these are worms? Maybe two or three bits, not moving, not “inside” but around. Nothing near her bum and no itching there.
We’ve all taken the Ovex now but I’m just confused why her pubic area is itchy (so far from her butt). Did the worms come out her bum, go in her privates and then spray the eggs in the pubic area?
The poor thing was so distressed. I hope she’s okay.
We are in full cleaning mode now - sheets, hands toys etc.
I also have a five month old - but haven’t seen anything with her.

The jumpiness never lasted long, but this front itching has been horrible. The white bits were maybe 2-3mm. I read they were usually longer?!

Yes. Threadworms do go up your hoo-ha. I never got itching just pain in the vulva. Boy did it hurt.

Northernsoullover · 08/11/2020 19:06

That sounds about right for the size.

Puddlelane123 · 08/11/2020 19:07

Sounds like pinworms to me OP so its good you cracked on with the Ovex. I gather the little blighters can and do migrate to the vulval / vaginal area and may therefore present with itching and irritation here in girls.

Poor love, hope it gets sorted soon.

Oh god I hope she’s not in pain. She is managing to sleep. I’ve used Sudafed to calm the itching? Thanks for replying.

Could it be thrush? One on my DD’s had this as a baby, I think it was after me being on a course of antibiotics.

Here. Very common poor thing.
Treat again in two weeks and I'd treat again 2 weeks after that. sounds like a bad case.

Go to the pharmacy and buy ovex suspension

Byemelania · 08/11/2020 19:12

Yeah we’ve all taken the ovex, but not the baby. I hope she’s okay.

With DD2 I found after vulval pain rather than itchy bottom. Don’t worry, it is normal, and next time you’ll realise and treat it sooner.

Byemelania · 08/11/2020 19:42

Next time! Argh. This is one thing I didn’t expect.. nits sure but worms. I read some people routinely worm their kids.

Also get some Vaseline and smear it all down there. It suffocates the worms so use it liberally

Verytired2019 · 14/11/2020 02:41

When I was aged 5-7 I remember having excruciating vulval pain near my urethra at night they turned out to be threadworm. I will know if my daughter ever has this. It was agonising.
