Possible imperforate hymen?

I wondered if anyone has experience of this please, as I've worried myself sick and there's no way to put my mind at rest today.

A few years ago my daughter was under the care of a paediatrician. One day, after her complaining that she was sore, I realised that she had no vaginal opening as it were. I initially went to the GP who was so unhelpful, said she didn't know if it looked normal but to worry about it when she is older.

I checked with the paediatrician and my DD was referred for a scan which showed her uterus and ovaries, and the paediatrician said it was just labial adhesions which would rectify themselves. She was so reassuring, and I've not thought about it since.

Every night this week, my DD (now 7) has been complaining of soreness down there. Last night I looked for the first time in ages and noticed that the labial adhesions have opened up (I think) but she still has no vaginal opening. The area is red and sore.

I've frightened myself reading what this could be, for example virginal agnesis (no opening at all). I'll contact the GP on Monday, but I'm so put off by how it went last time with the GP. I was almost made to feel strange for taking such an interest. It's not helped by having to write everything to the GP by email now.

Thank you if you read all this.

If your child is complaining of being sore you will have to ask to see GP. You might get cream to sooth soreness. I would be asking for gynecologist referral. I hope your dd is ok and does not have to wait too long.

GP and paeds referral. The majority of GPs won't be specialised enough to know much about these conditions. You are doing the right thing by taking an interest in your daughter's health, don't let them put you off!
