Y8+ flu vaccination - long term health problems

If your DC is above Y7 and should have a nasal spray flu vaccination due to a long-term health condition, have they had it yet?

We're overseas with the military and they've not yet received the vaccines. The country we're in doesn't use the nasal spray so private treatment isn't an option.

Also, has anyone had a pneumonia vaccine offered to your DC this year? Is there a nasal spray option for that?

Nasal spray isn't used for that age group here i don't think
Its only used for primary aged children and then its an injection for older children

According to this Y8 - Y11/12 should have the nasal spray if they don't meet the criteria for needing the injection.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/child-flu-vaccine/

Who should have the nasal spray flu vaccine
The nasal spray flu vaccine is free on the NHS for:
• children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2020 – born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2018
• all primary school children (reception to year 6)
• all year 7 in secondary school
• children aged 2 to 17 years with long-term health conditions
If your child is aged between 6 months and 2 years and is in a high-risk group for flu, they'll be offered a flu vaccine injection instead of the nasal spray.
This is because the nasal spray is not licensed for children under 2 years.
Children aged 2 to 17 years may also have the flu vaccine injection if the nasal spray vaccine is not suitable for them.

Nasal spray for year 11 Dd here, they had it last week.

Two of mine (13, 14) booked in for nasal vaccine in two weeks.

My son is year 8 and he’s had it, I didn’t receive a letter for him but the GP surgery had him on the list when I called to enquire. He’s having his pneumonia vaccine (injection) next month as they ran out of supply so couldn’t do the flu and pneumonia together.

It is safe for DC to have flu immunisation by injection, so that might be the best option if the sniff is unavailable (DC who cannot have live attenuated vaccines have it, everyone in my household has been jabbed)

Witchend · 22/11/2020 20:42

Ds (year 9) has just had his. He requested the jab rather than the nasal spray, but they said the nasal spray works better in that age group so got that.
He got a letter from public health telling him he should have it around a month ago. It's the first time he's been called for one.

He was very happy to have 2 days off school because he got a low grade temperature (always does after any vaccine)
